#LegendofZhouhua was another one in my mind - it’s got the same ML as #Minglan & a smart FL (Jing Tian); but it’s not quite the same

I guess the real #Minglan equivalents for me are palace dramas like #StoryofYanxiPalace (Wu Jinyan), #EmpressesinthePalace (Sun Li), & #LegendofLuZhen (Zhao Liying)

Zhao Liying - like all actors - has some weaker roles, of which #Fei is one.

But she’s an absolute star of cdrama. She’s brilliant & subtle in #TheStoryofMinglan, perfect for the role in #LegendofLuZhen, & convincingly gritty in #WildBloom, & pretty badass in #PrincessAgents & #TheLegendofShenLi

But off the top of my head I can only come up with historical dramas with strong FLs with narratives *devoted* to the interpersonal and societal struggles of women

😱 Zhao Liying is one of my absolute favourites!

She’s been in some dramas I can’t finish - like #LegendofFei & #BossandMe

But she was perfect in #TheStoryofMinglan, & very good in dramas like #TheLegendofShenLi & #LegendofLuZhen

Yes! #Empresses is the OG of palace dramas, with #Yanxi (and possibly #Ruyi, though I haven’t seen it yet) a close second

Another one to check out is #LegendofLuZhen (with Zhao Liying as the fl) - it’s not at the same level as these, but it’s still worth a watch for palace drama aficionados

She was superb in #MingLan

That’s one of my very favourite dramas - up there with #Empresses & #Yanxi (& #MeetYourself too, tho that’s a totally different drama)

She’s also good in #ShenLi - she owned that role

I liked her in #LegendofLuZhen too, as well as in a modern drama #WildBloom

I guess you’ve seen #StoryofYanxiPalace ? A drama that is similar to Ruyi, Empresses & Yanxi is #LegendofLuZhen (with Zhao Liying). The best costume drama with the basic premise of underdog woman winning against the odds is #TheStoryofMinglan (also starring Zhao Liying). Also #BlossomsinAdversity

After watching #TheDouble and leaving completely dry-eyed and annoyed at the 11th hour, unearned deaths, I re-watched #LegendOfLuZhen and it scratched the tragedy itch I needed. It’s longer and old-school, and by the end I was a fountain 😭 👍
