Spring is springing! Come down to the Mill and see the wildlife. #woodbridgetidemillmuseum #rspbbiggardenbirdwatch #rspb #rspbminsmere
Great visit to RSPB's second best nature reserve #RSPBMinsmere, cracking views of a bittern climbing the reeds in front of North hide, which was then topped by an Otter crossing the frozen ditch in front of Bittern hide. Supporting cast of Marsh Harriers and a mini-murmuration of c.200 Siskins
Stormy skies at sunset over RSPB Minsmere nature reserve, Suffolk ⛈️

A Robber Fly grasping its hoverfly prey from behind and still with its proboscis in the hoverfly's back. I found these two on some path-side bracken in the woodland at RSPB Minsmere, on the east coast of the UK.
A closer look at the same scene
A scene I'd been hoping to find for some time and finally got the chance back in the summer at RSPB Minsmere. This Robber Fly was preoccupied enough to let me get a few stacked shots before flying off.

I think that this is a Dune Robberfly predating a (Common) Emerald Damselfly at #rspbminsmere today.

A Roseate Tern on the South Scrape at #rspbminsmere, showed well for us for about 15 mins.

The elusive, stealthy, rare #bittern #rspb #rspbminsmere
This bittern was a lifer for a few happy visitors on Thursday. From Bittern Hide. #RSPBMinsmere #Birdsseenin2025
Lovely pulse of waders into & through #RSPBMinsmere this morning: 3 Wood Sands, 5 Spotted Redshanks, 9 Whimbrel, 12 Barwit etc. Best though was a superb pale Arctic Skua over East Scrape. Absolute stunner against the blue sky! #UKBirding #SuffolkBirding #Birds
Amazing what a new hip and hearing aids can do for an ageing birder! 101sp seen/heard in 22k steps at #RSPBMinsmere today without trying too hard! 2 Garganey, Spoonbill north, 2cy Caspian Gull, Little Gull, Nightingales & some passage waders the best. #UKBirding #SuffolkBirding #Birds
Not posted much lately (not seen much that’s not already posted) but highlights at #RSPBMinsmere today were Cuckoo, Short-eared Owl ( roosting in tree!) 3 Bramblings, Nightingale, a steady (50?) northerly Med Gull movement + a decent array of passage waders. #UKBirding #SuffolkBirding #Birds
Stonechat (Saxicola rubicola) taken RSPB Minsmere, March ‘25.
The stonechat is named for its call, which sounds just like two small stones being hit together!

European Adder (Vipera berus) - Taken RSPB Minsmere, March ‘25
I had the pleasure of spotting both some Europena Adders including a black variant which was a first for me. The standout feature for me are the striking red eyes!

The undoubted highlight at #RSPBMinsmere today was a Hooded Crow flying north. A flashback bird, recalling the 1970s when they were fairly regular winter visitors here. I hadn’t seen one at Minsmere since then! #UKBirding #SuffolkBirding #Birds
Wonderful outpouring of Wood Lark song on heathland near #RSPBMinsmere this morning. My new-ish hearing aids helped me enjoy it to the full after several years of mufflement ( and latterly silence!). Close Water Pipit at Island Mere Hide, Mins too. #UKBirding #SuffolkBirding #Birds
A mixed bag at #RSPBMinsmere today in glorious sunshine again. Best: L-t Duck still offshore, c250 C Scoter, 1 Purple Sand, 4 Bewick’s & 4 Whoopers, 2 Red Kite, 2 Cranes, 1 Dartford Warb in dunes & 2 frisky Ravens #UKBirding #SuffolkBirding #Birds
At last a calm, blue-sky day at #RSPBMinsmere today! Best: Long-tailed Duck with c150 Common Scoter, 1 Purple Sand, 4 Whoopers, 4 Bewick’s, 2 Red Kite, 2nd cal yr Caspian Gull & 2 Russian White-fronts. #UKBirding #SuffolkBirding #Birds
Visit to #RSPBMinsmere marred by arrogant, entitled dog owners with dogs on trails clearly signed (signs way too small) ‘no dogs’. Both on North Wall( free parking for romp on the beach) One was a slobbering off-lead Alsatian! Sick of this issue! #Natures_Voice #RSPB
The ruined walls of a former small abbey close to the Suffolk coast. In the middle there is a stained glass window - an installation called A Wing and a Prayer, reflecting that it is now in a RSPB sanctuary and a former abbey. There is blue sky above and grass in front.
The walls of the original Leiston Abbey, now part of #RSPBMinsmere #WallsOnWednesday
Small Copper
Mated female (right) rapidly beating her wing while crawling away from the male who loses interest and flies away.
Great to witness this at #RSPBMinsmere yesterday.

A photograph from the Island Mere hide at RSPB Minsmere. Reed bed in the foreground, with 4 cormorants on a perch in open water behind that, and blue sky with white fluffy clouds in the background.
Not a bad place to spend a day #RSPBMinsmere
