Headed out for a walk as soon as the rain had stopped and there were lots of raindrop opportunities to photograph. Particularly like the strong diagonals against the subtle horizontals, plus the capture of signs of spring on the first day of the new season. It's such an uplifting season - brings hope, colour and new beginnings. Our picture shows a peaceful riverside scene on what appears to be a cool, rainy day in Naas, Ireland. In the foreground, there is a small concrete weir, a low barrier stretching across the river framed by two large, rectangular concrete blocks on either side. The blocks are weathered and darkened with age, with patches of green moss clinging to their damp surfaces. Water spills gently over the lip of the weir, forming a smooth, dark blue sheet before tumbling down into a frothy, white churn below. The falling water creates a soft cascade, and beneath it the river swirls energetically, bubbling and foaming as it continues downstream. Just beside the rushing water, at the bottom right of the image, clumps of wet grass and low green plants grow along the muddy bank. Some of the grass is fresh and bright green, while other blades are long, straw-colored, and bent over. The ground looks saturated, as if it has recently rained. Above the weir, the river is calm and glassy. The water is a deep, rich blue, reflecting the overcast sky. Small circular ripples dot the surface, likely from raindrops gently tapping the water. Near the center of the river, there is also a small floating structure of a bird shelter perched on a low platform. Overall, the image captures a contrast between motion and stillness: the energetic rush of water spilling over the weir in the foreground and the quiet, reflective calm of the river beyond. The atmosphere feels cool, fresh, and serene, with the gentle suggestion of rain in the air. Finally, our picture is finished with a simple white border frame.
