I remain mystified by these silt covered jelly loops that are common in the rivers of East Anglia at this time of year. They can reach a foot in length. Suspended from underwater vegetation & branches.
Are they bryozoans? Invertebrate eggs?

Yet, wonderful surprise to find the most luxuriant bank of River Water Crowfoot (Ranunculus fluitans) I've ever encountered, thick across whole width of the river, for a short stretch where the river runs faster past Tragalgar Woord after inflow from Kilverstone. #RiverThet 4/12
But absolutely masses of caddisfly larvae in the River Thet upstream of Larling - every surface crawling in them. So I guess the water quality can't be as bad as it feels.

The River Thet upstream of Larling seems very eutrophic with thick growth of Yellow Water-lilies, Lesser Water Parsnip & Bur-reed and much silt.
Water was 13.6°C & air 16.8°C

Sheer exhilaration to be back in a chalk stream warm enough that can just wear fingerless gloves, under a blue sky, from the historic (1697) Melford Bridge 1km up into the tranquil world of Alders, Reeds & Willows. More to explore... #chalkstreams #riverthet #thetford

Exceptionally (for here in the Brecks) luxuriant mounds of Greater Water-moss (Fontinalis antipyretica) flow in the River Thet around Melford Bridge, Thetford.

Here's top & side views of a glossy little Pike. Note how this one's spotty & that above is stripey.
Lots Gudgeon too doing their thing on river bed, below the shoals of Roach, Chub & Dace. #Thetford #RiverThet #RiverLittleOuse #Freshwaterfishes #Pike #Chalkstreams #Norfolk 6/9
Besides Chub and Dace, delighted to see a Common Bream & a grumpy (as ever!) Bullhead, where the River Thet joins the Little Ouse in Thetford town centre

Masses of fish fry of several species in Rivers Thet & Little Ouse in Thetford town centre, big shoals of Minnows & plenty Dace & Chub bombing around, as well as Roach. Almost all seemed in great health.

Tx @OSBrecks for tip re delights of swimming in Thetford town centre! Got in Little Ouse (15.6°C) & swam up Thet to coffee mill. Felt quite autumnal. Canada Geese unsure what to make of me but Mute Swans took in their stride.

Overleaf Pellia (Pellia epiphylla) on banks of #RiverThet upstream of Snetterton North End. River largely devoid of aquatic vegetation. Is this Canadian Pondweed?
Puzzled by some fungi on tree trunks over the river?

Green Drake Mayflies on the wing - such hapless creatures - on River Thet upstream of Snetterton. But in 0.5 miles saw almost no fish, only 2 mussels (Painter's Mussel/ Unio pictorum?) & a chicken leg (otter prey?). Visibility poor (as usual, in my experience in #RiverThet). 2/4
Delighted to find a spectacular 'tack room' of Dryad's Saddle (Ceriporus/Polyporus squamosus) on the banks of River Thet upstream of Snetterton North End.

What a salve, these days of glorious spring sunshine in this new uncertain world. The Oaks, still wintery, contrast with the irrepressible golden Gorse flowers & a Shelduck flying from an area of rabbit burrows on the heath along the wending #RiverThet. #MyWalk #Bridgham 1/4
A serene stretch of the #RiverThet at #ThorpeWoodlands, that was considerably less serene several years ago when we somewhat over-adventurously kayaked it with large numbers of primary school children as part of one of Anna’s famous birthday camping parties.... #Norfolk
