I was in Cheddar today and had a look for Dippers along the Cheddar Yeo. I drew a blank. Does anyone know if Dippers have been seen in Cheddar recently, and if so where exactly to look? Thanks

Photo of one of two smallest UK birds species, the Firecrest. Weighing the same as a 20p piece, it's a tiny bird, with a dark band through it's eye dark cap with a yellow/orange crest which it raises when alarmed. It's back is olive with hues of yellow. Throat chest and belly is a dull buff to grey.

I felt lucky to get such good views of this great white egret at Chard Reservoir this afternoon. It flew towards me and then spent some time fishing close by. Lucky for me - not so much for the fish. #Birds #WildlifePhotography #UKWildlife #SomersetBirds #Egret

Decent views of the Spotted Redshank from VP1, Ham Wall. Kudos to the young birder from Birds of Poole Harbour who found it at the back in of the pool. Also: Redpoll, Treecreeper NFY. Large flock of Siskins, at least 8 Great Egrets (very active), Firecrest seen by others. #somersetbirds

The wintering Glossy Ibis at Catcott on Sunday, surely the next bird to breed in #somersetbirds

Today I went straight from work to Cheddar Reservoir, where I enjoyed great views of the Red-necked Grebe. It was close to the Axbridge tower and caught a couple of fish while I was watching it. My attempts to find the Black-necked Grebes were thwarted by failing light and rain.

Great White Egret Ardea alba, from the family Ardeidae. Used to be scarce in the UK, but are now becoming widespread; especially in the south and west.

A photo of hundreds of wildfowl taking to the air. I think it was a pair of Marsh Harriers that put them up. It was an incredible scene.

Ducks!
Happily watching them feed when a raptor put them up. Amazing sights and sounds. Seen a few years ago, whilst visiting RSPB Greylake.
