🌍 Spotted thick-knee (Burhinus capensis) The spotted thick-knee, also known as the Cape thick-knee or spotted dikkop, is a medium-sized wader found in central and southern Africa. It is characterized by its long legs, thick tibiotarsal joint ("knees"), and large, yellow eyes. This bird has a distinctive plumage pattern with brown feathers covered in black spots, providing excellent camouflage in its natural habitat. The spotted thick-knee prefers open grasslands, savannas, and sandy areas. It is primarily nocturnal, relying on its keen eyesight and stealthy nature to hunt insects, small vertebrates, and occasionally seeds. Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1) 📷: Photo by unattributed via Pixabay RXCK

A red and white card from Australia Post advising delivery could not be made of a postal item. Writing reads; 'Sorry, couldn't get to the door. The curlews were losing their shit.'

Any other #StoneCurlews in #NorthernNSW?
YES, but not a #BeachNestingBird! There is another #StoneCurlew species in Australia, the Bush Stone-curlew, #endangered in NSW. If they're nearby, you might hear their ghost-like contact call at night.
