A look at our free station-to-station guided walk this past Saturday from #Westerfield to #Woodbridge.
The walk through the lovely Fynn Valley included a stop at the pub in #Tuddenham, a picnic lunch at #Playford, and cake at the church in Little Bealings.

Utter thrill to find local #chalkstream Tuddenham Mill Stream, tributary of the River Lark, full of dozens of fine Brown Trout, mostly 12, 9 & 6 inches long. This one was sitting downstream of a fallen tree. #chalkstreams #westsuffolk #tuddenham #suffolk #browntrout

A treat to be welcomed home to the village by a herd of Red Deer.

Lost for words to describe thrill of discovering that ditch on edge of our village is probably Suffolk's most important chalk stream, 1 of only 2 with breeding Brown Trout (neighbouring tributaries of River Lark). Most of the dozens are c20cm but 2 of 30cm+ #Tuddenham #MySwim 1/6
Here's a selection of macrophytes in Tuddenham Mill Stream: Fool's Watercress (Helosciadium nodiflorum), Watercress (Nasturtium officinale), Alder? roots & Water Starwort (Callitriche sp?). #wildflowerhour #Chalkstreams #WestSuffolk #Tuddenham #tuesdayvibe 6/7
The fungi are beginning to emerge! At Tuddenham spectacular Scaly Sawgill (Neolentinus lepideus)? & on the heath Grisette (Amanita vaginata), Tawny Grisette (Amanita fulva)? & Blusher (Amanita rubescens).

In Tuddenham Mill Stream on Monday, a lovely pool of Dace.
A 30 cm trout whizzed by.

That moment of high anticipation before you launch into #chalkstreams. In #Tuddenham Mill Stream had quality time with a Brown Trout parr. Met 2 #BrookLamprey, 1 upstream of this 1 nest-building

At Tuddenham Heath - Turkeytail?
Cladonia coniocraea lichen?
Some fine Ganodermas (maybe Southern Bracket) on a birch.
One of the magnificent oaks along the woodbank, basking in the evening sun.

One of the Minnows (?) in Tuddenham Mill Stream's gin clear water seemed completely silver - never seen one looking like that before.

Plenty Breckland Speedwell (Veronica praecox) on headland & a Fingered Speedwell (V. triphyllos). None yet in flower. Good to see Winter Stalkball on edge of village. Flowering Currant (Ribes sanguineum) in the Sweet Chestnut coppice #Tuddenham #Breckland #Brecks #WestSuffolk 2/2
Maybe top left is Split Porecrust (Schizpora paradoxa)? Could top right be Peniophora cinerea?
I think the grey lichen is Oak Moss (Evernia prunastri) but what about the yellow one in with it?
Any ideas on the agaric?

Here are some more brackets on willows that have foxed me, though I suppose the top right is Turkeytail?

I'm confident that the top left is Willow Bracket (Phellinus igniarius) - and could that be Candlesnuff Fungus dangling from the branch? - but what about the other 3 fungi, all on willows?

On the willows along the River Lark could these be Artist's Bracket (Ganoderma applanatum)?

Mild evening along the River Lark at Heath, still very wet underfoot but a Cetti's Warbler loud in the reeds and a glorious sunset.
Lots of fungi on the trees in the willow carr...

On some big old Oaks, are these two young Ganodermas - the top one had a powdery brown top about 2 m up the trunk and the bottom one a shiny fawn top at the base of the trunk?
Presumably the dead one is Oak Bracket?

At Tuddenham Heath Hairy Bracket (Trametes hirsuta) and Birch Woodwart (Hypoxylon multiforme).
But what about the other fungus on the Scots Pine trunk?

On oak at #Tuddenham Heath a fine Oak Mazegill (Daedalea quercina), Ochre Spreading Tooth (Steccherinum ochraceum) & Waxy Crust (Vuillemania comedens).
Woods still lovely & wet, though a Woodlark singing over adjacent field in the spring warmth. #MyWalk CavenhamHeath #fungi

Gosh fungi are challenging to identify! Are the top two Turkeytail (Trametes versicolor) and the bottom Blushing Bracket (Daedaleopsis confragosa) and Yellowing Curtain Crust (Stereum subtomentosum)?

On this splendid old oak, could these be Robust Bracket (Fomitiporia robusta/Phellinus robustus)?
And on a different old oak, could this hard pink fungus be a Ganoderma?

#Tuddenham Heath still wonderfully wet. My 1st Winter Polypore (Lentinus or Polyporus brumalis)? among the willows. Good to see the fox proof fence going up on #CavenhamHeath ready for nesting Stone Curlews when they return.

I suppose the two left hand images are of Witches Butter (Exidia glandulosa) - maybe also the top right unless it is Jelly Ear?
But perhaps the bottom right on birch is
Warlock's Butter (Exidia plana)

Another glorious #SuffolkSunset, and Oyster Mushrooms on a venerable Black Poplar (Populus nigra betulifolia) down Sandy Drove.

Delighted to find my 9th Puffball sp, Stump Puffball (Lycoperdon pyriforme), & Witches' Butter (Exidia glandulosa)? on this mild evening with a hint of spring, avian evensong beginning to ramp up before the Breckland sunset as late as 4.40!
