The museum closed in 1973, and the house was abandoned. By the 1980s it had deteriorated to the point it was threatened with demolition, but was saved, restored and converted into flats.

A Victorian glasshouse in Tollcross Park in the East End of Glasgow. It's thought to have been built around 1858, which would make it the oldest of the city's five historic winter gardens.

The Tollcross YMCA building in the East End of Glasgow. I don't know the architectur or the date, but I'm presuming from the Art Deco style details that it's 1920s-ish. Either way, I find it a visually interesting building .

Another section of the 1848 Tollcross House in Tollcross Park, Glasgow. I love the square corner turrets on this part, as well as the crow-stepped gables and the paired chimneys at the very top.

Some of the longest continuous runs of tenements in Glasgow can be found along Tollcross Road in the East End of the city. This particular run contains around thirty closes in a row with no breaks between them.

Such portrait medallions often appeared on Victorian gravestones, but few remain in place as over the years many of them have been stolen.

Much of the former farm is now occupied by St Paul's Primary School and the surrounding modern houses, but its name remains, as do some of some of early 19th century farm buildings.

However traces of many of these remain in the names of buildings, parks, streets and neighbourhoods. In this case, it's Egypt Farm, also known as little Egypt, on Dalness Street in the East End of Glasgow.

Much of the land which now forms Glasgow was, not that long ago, countryside. As the city expanded relentlessly outwards during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it swallowed up countless country mansions and farms alike.

I love this little red sandstone building sandwiched between two older blonde sandstone ones on Tollcross Road in Glasgow. I'm presuming this was originally built as a shop with accommodation for the owner above it.
