This year I’m planning to do #FinishItFebruary, #MendMarch and #TourDeFleece again, same as last year. Are there any other fibre arts/sewing related monthly challenges that I could do?
And for handspinners, Adelaide Walker have been doing an excellent fibre #AdventCalender for a few years now. I did their #TourdeFleece one in the summer.

I’ve been processing raw sheep fleeces from scratch a project I’m calling #farmtofibre
I started off with a gorgeous moorit 🤎 and the rare Boreray Orkney 🤍and now I’ve got myself a black Shetland fleece🖤🖤🖤
A slow process to be spun for #tourdefleece ! #knittingsky #spinningsky #yarnsky #fibresky
This week's crafty blog post is a summary of what I spun during the Tour De Fleece. I got another chance to spin up some Haunui fibre, and it was so nice to spin.

I completely forgot about #tourdefleece this year. Whoops
A hefty length of plied cream-coloured two-ply yarn wound around a wooden niddy-noddy.
Finally got my #tourdefleece spinning on the niddy-noddy! #yarnsky Really quite pleased with how this one came out.

I blended this batt with @laughingcatfibers.bsky.social when she was at The Artful Yarn, it was a lovely time blending fiber and spinning, and this swamp moss vibes have made for a great textured yarn.

Seven support spindles in a row with blue, green, and brown fiber spun around them.
Finished my #TourDeFleece spin! Now to ply.

Ball of light purple yarn and a pink handled crochet hook suit alongside 2 pieces of freeform crochet. No patterns to follow, no lines, just add stitches where you feel like it and use increases/decreases to try and keep your finished piece flat.
I pulled out last year's #TourDeFleece yarns added a few other scraps to the box and decided to give freeform crochet a go.

I’m still working on my #TourDeFleece spin. I am very slow at a slow craft.

Today washing line with laundry drying on the inner layers and lots of skeins of white yarn on the other layers.
Finally soaked my Tour de Fleece spins to set the twist. Added a couple of skeins from before #TourDeFleece that were still waiting for their soak and will finish the rest of those tomorrow.

Starting a sheep breed study where I spin undyed, natural, British 🇬🇧 sheep fleece in an effort to learn more about this beautiful fibre!
Study no. 1 : Bluefaced Leicester Humbug Sheep 🐑 a gorgeous soft brown & cream mix ~ 100g spun into a 2 ply ➿

A hank of yarn in different coloured blues and grey/ greens.
A hank of blue/ grey/ green yarn twisted into a skein on a stone floor.
This was the last spin I started during #TourdeFleece but I only just finished today. My first attempt at a fractal spin, which was fun, and does make a lovely yarn! 🧶 #handspinning
🐑 #TourdeFleece 2025 really helped relight my spinning fire. (I have yet to wash any of my yarn🤷♀️) But I started a whole different project. (Empty bobbins and all) a combo spin, starting with this recycled silk sari. Happy fiber Friday! #handspun #fiberarts #spinsky
Washed up all my tour de fleece skeins! Got my sister to help beat em up — which she enjoyed mwahahaha

A skein of handspun yarn in shades of blue and orange.
Four skeins of yarn, from left to right: shades of blue and orange, tonal green, shades of blue orange and white, purple and deep blue.
My last spin of #TourDeFleece was this lovely skein from @fossilfibers.bsky.social. It had been in my stash for a bit, and while I was spinning it I wished I'd bought more. Final TDF line up on the right. I spun about a pound of yarn, and had fun!
So much for my ‘outside plans’ for today. Which consisted of washing my #tourdefleece 🐑skeins 🧶 and hanging them to dry. I haven’t seen golfball sized hail in a few years.🙀 It sounded like rocks were hitting the house. Thankfully we didn’t suffer any damages. Thought we would have some broken glass
A pair of hand spun, hand knit socks laid out on a faded blue deck railing above a blooming hydrangea. The socks have short, rolled cuffs and a traditional heel flap. The yarn is blended shades of bright blue, brown, sea green, red-purple and dark blue, and is spun to create a striped or color blocked effect. The striping on the two socks does not match. The hydrangeas are in full bloom in pink, white, and pale green.
I fell off the #tourdefleece wagon so hard. My travel project for my work trip was no good - short staple wool that I wanted to spin thin for socks does not go with a heavy spindle - and I was swamped with homework when I got back. Still, I finished my handspun socks on the plane! #knitting 🧶
Plastic tub full of handspun yarns
Final #TourDeFleece tally: 546m over 10 different yarns! All of my yarns are DK or thicker with a few bulky so less length, more thickness. My handspun yarn tub is getting pretty full!

My hand is holding a wooden spinning wheel bobbin 3/4s full of bright pink chainette yarn with silver glass beads spaced evenly on it.
I forgot to share this before, this is the last yarn of #TourDeFleece 2025. 2 stitch I-cord (lucette) with beads added every 10 rounds. It takes extra time to add the beads but it’s so pretty!

Three twisted hanks of yarn on green grass. Two of the hanks are two-ply, one white and one purple-pink thread. The colour changes a lot in the yarn. The third hank is chain plied yarn using only the pink-purple thread.
My Tour de Fleece spins. One of the hanks is more tightly wound. They both have about 111 g in them (3.9 oz?), but one has ~15 meters more yarn. So quite even for me. The third hank is the excess pink thread, chain plied.
Thank you all for sharing your lovely handspun 🧶❤️

Final spin of the mystery fleece completed.

This fleece won the 2nd prize in the 2024 #MinsterleyShow #ShropshireSpinners
I'd already spun parts of it prior to this year's #TDF but during the Tour de Fleece and Tour de Fleece Femme I've added ....
More or less all my #tourdefleece #handspun yarn and a cat

A close up of a bobbin on a flyer of a spinning wheel with green house plants in the background. Around the bobbin is the start of a new spin of very thin yarn in greens, teals and browns.
A braid of BFL wool roving is wound in a spiral on a board. The roving is hand dyed in browns, teals and greens.
Little bundles of BFL wool roving lay on a deck waiting to be hand spun into yarn. Some are in the sunlight and others are in the shade. They dyed in are browns, teals, greens and creams.
A hand dyed and spindle spun gradient of mini skeins of yarn lay on a deck railing. They range in color from blues on the left through purple, red, orange, yellow and into cream on the right. A greenhouse and hillside are in the distance.
My First Tour de Fleece is a wrap! 🐑💫
I spun 6 oz of a Fossil Fibers gradient on the drop spindle, and started this beautiful BFL braid on my spinning wheel. 🧶
I split this braid into 14(ish?) looooong strips to experiment with shorter color repeats.

Two wooden bobbins wound fat with Suffolk fleece-spun yarn!
Forgot to post my finished #tourdefleece spindles! Well, yarn, anyway, it needs a couple of days of rest before I ply. I got pretty much all of the Suffolk done, will see how this plies up and possibly use the last little bit for a blend.

My hank of merino yarn is mostly dry - I gave it a soak in hot water yesterday after plying then winding it onto my umbrella swift.
Yesterday was the final day of #TourDeFleece and I'm so happy with how this yarn turned out.
