In 1964, US Steel got the air rights to the yards & briefly considered creating a factory & housing complex to show off the role of steel in residential construction. But the project was abandoned, & their big PR move for the year was building the #Unisphere for the World's Fair.
The Unisphere is a metal sculptural representation of the globe in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, NY. In this night time shot, the sky is dark and black. The steel globe is surrounded by water jets that are illuminated underneath sending light along their streams up into the night sky and casting an upward glow onto the sculpture.
The Unisphere appears suspended in stillness, framed by fountains that rise like breath beneath the night. Water catches the city’s glow, and the world feels momentarily buoyed by light. #BlueSkyArtShow #Glow
