The frame is filled by the largely featherless head of a wood stork. Its head looks almost scaly and is beige with a black spot on its head and green around its eye and beak. Its beak is long, thick, pale, and curves downward at the end. The body is covered with white feathers and there is a thick feathery ruff at its throat.

The Harrington mudflat (here on Saint Simons Island) is adorned with six Spoonies on a dreary day from last autumn. The Spoonies’ buddy, Wilson the Wood Stork finds his way into the photo. The Spoonbill reflections struggle to add a little more pink to the scene.
