I was curious to see what it was like, so I pressed play & watched the first two episodes - & I like it 🙂

It has a slight #ALoveSoBeautiful feel to it - a nice group of friends, with the FL Yi Lan getting support from the sometimes gruff looking but sweet A student ML Tong Xiaole

Oh yes, these two are great 👍 (they’re still pretty recent, I think only a year or two older than the ones I mentioned)

Another youth drama that I loved & remember feeling quite ‘kdrama’ in some ways was

#ALoveSoBeautiful (the cdrama version - there is also a kdrama version, but it’s not great)

I keep coming back to the idea of (good/bad) acting and wondering about it…

I’ve often heard people say that a good actor can be bad with bad direction or a bad actor can be good with good direction, and I feel like this is true.

I don’t pay all that much attention to screenwriters or directors tbh 🥲

But I did notice that the director for #TheGlory, one of my faves of the year, was also the director for #ALoveSoBeautiful, one of my all-time faves

Other naturalistic but easy to watch youth romance dramas that come to mind are #ALoveSoBeautiful & #ForeverLove

Note: this isn’t the kdrama version of #ALoveSoBeautiful, which I’ve heard from others isn’t very good

The other cdrama which is a bit similar, but has very different characters, is a heartwarming youth drama called #ALoveSoBeautiful

Day 6: Coming Of Age Story

#ALoveSoBeautiful is a typical coming-of-age #cdrama but one of my favorites. Become close friends in high school. Start dating while in university, but regrettably break up. Meet again years later and get back together.

It’s a breezy watch - a bit like #ALoveSoBeautiful, #PutYourHeadOnMyShoulder & #WhenIFlyTowardsYou, but slightly more adult & mature (they face more adult circumstances & you see them as interns, etc)

It’s got a good mix of seriousness & comedy, but nothing too heavy

least this hurt is mitigated by the way the drama treats them - which I think #ALoveSoBeautiful manages to do

(though I think this can be discussed as I don’t know how others reacted to this triangle)

I know Chinese dramas aren’t your thing, but there have been some very sweet & wholesome school romance dramas that I think have been done well & are quite charming - eg, #ALoveSoBeautiful (not the kdrama version), & #WhenIFlyTowardsYou

I think I see what you mean - I mean, we are used to watching dramas set in high schools & don’t think anything about it (is #ALoveSoBeautiful or #PutYourHeadOnMyShoulder only supposed to be watched by highschool aged people? I don’t think so! I don’t think they’re even the target audience 😅)

#ALoveSoBeautiful is one I’ve rewatched many times. IMO it warrants rewatch because the ML has so much going on under the surface so that I have to really pay attention and empathize with him to understand. For instance, there’s a scene where he watches the FL and 2ML shuffle through the classroom

Oh lol I didn’t realize HYT was in it. I’ve only liked him in #ALoveSoBeautiful. You both are positive about it though so I’ll keep it in mind in the future!

Some youthful romance ones are #WhenIFlyTowardsYou & #ALoveSoBeautiful (slightly more mature one is #YouAreMyGlory)
