Photograph taken at Egglestone Abbey near Barnard Castle in North Yorkshire. Built in the C13th as a monastery, it lies in beautiful ruins today and is run by English Heritage. A monochrome filter was used to focus on the tracery detail.

View of the sky through a pair of crumbling arched windows with remnants of decorative tracery. Blue sky was overhead so look at the comments for the colour version. The walls have clear rectangular indentations where wooden beams would have been anchored back in the day.

Well worth a visit!

Photograph taken looking through a window at Barnard Castle, towards the river and trees below in the autumn. Late afternoon sunlight hits the stone mullions. Semi-ruined walls above and wooden boards below.

Not a fan of heights but forced myself up and up, on a hunch that there would be good photo opportunities at the top! Deliberately didn't look down at the boards underneath my feet in another hunch the drop below was visible...it was...I looked up from underneath!

Photograph taken looking through the fancy stone balustrade onto the perfect formal garden in front of The Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle. Crouched down on the steps to get this angle, so a little surprised they let me in!

Two large, ageing stone balusters, take up most of the frame. Between them is a beautiful formal garden with green grass and low flowerbeds, with a fountain in the middle. In the distance are autumn trees, the gatehouse and a moody sky overhead through which the sun is starting to break through.

Absolutely wonderful museum to visit and the local area is lovely too with lots to visit.

Photograph of an area of fabric storage in The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle. Vital part of looking after a textile collection and almost as fascinating as the collection itself. Yes, I surprised myself getting this excited about storage solutions! The museum has various areas where you can learn about how pieces are cleaned, stored and cared for.

A large fluted, dark tinted glass door is drawn back to show rolls of wrapped textiles protected by cream fabric. To the bottom right of the image, the glass door has beautiful gold letter spelling out 'ROLLED'.

Pre-kid, I rocked a dress like this. 1932 crêpe backed silk satin, sheath dress, cut to hug the body. Absolutely love it! Would love to pull a dress like this off again, in an exciting (and more forgiving) colour.

Photograph showing a cream silk satin, floor length evening dress cut on the bias with twisted ropes of fabric providing interest around the neck and arm holes.

On display in the textile collection at The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle. Technically not a palace but if you saw the building it was built in the style of one and it has a very fancy garden too. Well worth a visit and so much on display. Their storage methods of such amazing works are fascinating too!

Photograph taken at Egglestone Abbey near Barnard Castle in North Yorkshire. Built in the C13th as a monastery, it lies in beautiful ruins today and is run by English Heritage.

A rectangular stone window divided into three narrow, vertical apertures built into the stone wall. Looking out at the view of autumnal trees and lush green grass outside with blue sky and clouds overhead.

Late afternoon at Barnard Castle. Destination of the odious Tory liar, Cummings when the pandemic walloped. Place itself was a wonderful day out - abbey, castle, art gallery.

Photograph of a large tree in the midst of losing its leaves, growing out through a large area of missing castle wall. River below and blue sky above. Beautiful autumn colours and late afternoon sunlight.

This morning started off with thick fog which looked like it would thin and clear by late morning. This was just downstream of Barnard Castle, Teesdale, County Durham, UK as it began to burn off.

I have it on good account he was behind the TFL graffiti slur. He’ll be very at home with Reform UK.
