For some reason #Robin seemed to like my old cracked "Black-headed-gull pot" that never got past its bisque firing to become one of several #allotment ceramic objects to perch on. #Commondarter, on the other hand, seemed to prefer my rucksack 🙄

Eine Libelle sitzt auf einem hellbraunen, vertrockneten Schilfblatt, dessen Spitze abgerissen ist, sie ist überwiegend ziegelrot und hellbraun gefärbt und hat klare, transparente Flügel mit feinen schwarzen Adern und rötlichen Flügelmalen; die Flügel sind ausgestreckt und nach vorn schräggestellt; sie hat rot-braune Komplexaugen, die zwei hellen, breiten, die charakteristischen gelb-grünen Flecken auf ihrem Thorax (Brust) sind zu erkennen; das Abdomen (Hinterleib) ist ziegelrot mit seitlich schwarzen Flecken; der Hintergrund ist unscharf braun-grün

Zwei Libellen im Flug von schräg hinten fotografiert, eine rot und braune Libelle fliegt voran und hält die zweite, überwiegend braune Libelle mit dem Hinterleibsende am Kopf fest; ihre transparenten Flügel sind unscharf in der Bewegung zu erkennen; beide fliegen in niedriger Höhe über ein flaches Gewässer mit braunem Grund zwischen breiten, grünen Blattspreiten von Gräsern
Ein Paar der Großen Heidelibelle legt Eier ins flache Wasser eines im Vorjahr angelegten Regenrückhaltebecken auf einer Waldlichtung im Taunus ab.

The #CommonDarter is well named among #dragonflies , but I think 'common percher' would suit it far better as it just loves to perch on favourite perches, from whence it occasionally darts 😊
This one's favourite was the very top of the small apple tree today & there it perched for 3 whole hours.

A male Common Darter in obelisk pose on top of a post. He's a small red dragonfly with diagonal red and yellow panels along the sides of his thorax, red eyes, red wing spots, and cream stripes along his otherwise black legs. The obelisk pose involves a kind of handstand, with the head down and the abdomen pointing upwards at a very steep angle towards the sun. It allows the dragonfly to control its temperature by reducing the surface area of its body on which direct sunlight is falling.

A common darter, or dragonfly (Sympetrum striolatum) perches on a green leaf, facing me. The background is made up of blurred green leaves in the Fisherman’s Island State Park. He is looking right at me and seems to be communicating as he does so. He stayed there a very long time, patiently, as I tried to snap the photo; It was breezy, and the leaves blowing kept impeding my focus.

A common darter dragonfly is perched on a rusty piece of metal wire from a fence surrounding a wetland area on Kos Island in Greece. The background has a golden semicircular glow from the bottom, fading to a pale blue sky. The golden colour is produced using a background of yellow broom flowers at a distance to create a blurred area of colour. The dragonfly’s body is horizontal in the image, with the upper wings lifted to the sky by a gentle breeze. This common darter is immature having recently emerged and appears similar colours to a female, but paler. Females are ochre/yellows and orange, becoming duller/reddish with age.

A common darter, probably. There are a lot of very similar dragonflies to be honest and someone is bound to correct me. Anyhow, it is in flight, over our pond, flying left to right. 700mm, f/11.0, 1/2500s, 2500ISO, Canon R5, RF200-800 with 1.4x extender.
I've been trying to get a shot like this for years.
