Accd. to eBird, the curt song of the Dickcissel sounds like the birds name and can be heard in North American prairies.
This chunky grassland bunting is colored like a miniature meadowlark, with a black V on a yellow chest.
In years past, this bird has been classified in the Oriole, Blackbird families as well as the Sparrow family. Currently, in Canada they are classified in the Cardinal family.
The males perch themselves near or at the top of small trees and bushes, calling out their names to claim their territory.
