Super half day at #RSPB Mersehead yesterday mass flocks of Barnacle geese, wonderful views of Pintail, whilst in the skies were Buzzards, Red Kites & Merlin. On the beach was a Small Spotted Catshark #Eggcase, no Skate/Ray cases.

Attended an online talk yesterday from Cat Gordon from the #Shark Trust – Strandline to Science: The Journey of a Shark Eggcase. Will be looking along that strandline in the next few weeks for those ‘mermaids purses’ with the aim to use the #Eggcase Hunt app to log my records.
It's a great morning for beachcombing! #CitizenScience #sharks #eggcase
The utter contrast of Cairnbulg Beach never fails to astound me.
We have removed TONNES of #beachlitter from here over the years & still it comes ashore, & yet wading through it, I came across a hatched critically endangered #FlapperSkate #eggcase !
Exasperation and hope all rolled into one….

Home in North Wales for Christmas and found a great collection of shark and ray egg cases on the beach after recent storms. For comparison L-R: (Thornback?) ray, Bullhuss / Greater Spotted Dogfish and Cat Shark / Lesser Spotted Dogfish. #eggcase #ukshark #mermaidspurse #beachcoming #nature
Small spotted #catsharks (Scyliorhinus canicula) will always find something to allow them to anchor an eggcase!
This was literally the only vertical growth in the vicinity of the seabed, it made for a beautiful snap!
