Butterfly on buddleia. The spread wings are edged in white, then a band of orange and black, then dark chocolate brown around the butterfly's body.
A Great Spangled Fritillary from my garden yesterday. The magenta Buddleia brings all the pollinators to the yard.
(And then clashes horribly with them.)

Aren't small pearl-bordered fritillaries stunning? We visited Glasdrum Woods in Argyll last week just after a rain shower so they weren't haring around at 100 miles an hour, as is their way, so we got lovely views!

this is an interesting thread! in the UK we have Fritillaria meleagris - which is found in a handful of places, mainly flood plains as a meadow of fritillaries - this was taken in April in Hampshire. You can see the similarities with the fritillary liliacea 💜 #fritillaries #botany #wildflowers
