a large and aged black conk mushroom with red rim pokes out from the jagged edge of a stump; its surface bright white from sunlight, still has a crisply outlined shadow of needles from a nearby cedar branch
a side view of a curiously shaped mushroom jutting from the mossy side of a tree, with a flat saucer center dividing the "fuzzy moldy cheese" appearing top half from the "limestone cave walls" appearing lower half; overall resembling a classic UFO
a chainsawed portion of tree, hosting some large conks (blurry & out of focus) at the bottom, and some relatively mossy green turkey tail mushrooms (more in focus) at the top; not particularly photogenic, but of interest to me as it was the first time seeing two different species occupying the same real estate, something not too common, but evidently not unheard of
a pareidolic conk mushroom, mostly white and cream, with a shape resembling a cartoon frog with its eyes shut and smiling in blissful satisfaction
knocked on my ass by a bad cold, but at least a recent hike shortly before that was emotionally restorative, as well as a replenishing of interesting sights to see, including a handful for #FungiFriday
