How can the #RoyalIrishAcademy claim "Europe's largest collection of megalithic art" at #Knowth "shaped our understanding of this ancient site" when the RIA insists Knowth's #MegalithicArt "cannot be understood to have a specific meaning"?

Where's the #understanding in that #questionable claim?

I asked Google: Are solar eclipses represented in Irish megalithic art?

AI Overview said: Yes, some researchers propose that certain Irish megalithic art, particularly in the Loughcrew complex, represents solar eclipses.

A Letter To Indi Bains About Her Attempt To Discredit Paul Griffin's Hypothesis That A Solar Eclipse Is Represented In The Megalithic Art Of Loughcrew's Cairn L I wrote this post over a year ago on April 5th, 2024, but never published it. More seriously, I & several other researchers have identified what we have very reasonable grounds to believe are depictions of #SolarEclipses, or #SolarEclipseSymbolism, in the #MegalithicArt of Ireland, & we arrived at our hypotheses independently.

The problem with Dr. Elizabeth Shee Twohig's assertions, which have been endorsed and promulgated by the Royal Irish Academy in Excavations At Knowth Volume 7, is that they effectively dismiss and reject as invalid any and all existing interpretations of the *meaning* of Ireland's #MegalithicArt.

1 0 1 0

I don't think I was being "confrontational" about Dr. Shee Twohig's questionable claim that the #MegalithicArt of #Knowth, and by extension all Irish megalithic art, is purely geometric "non-representational art" that "cannot be understood", but this did cause Ken to try to discredit my hypotheses.

One Ken Williams got interested in spending quite a bit of his time trying to discredit my #Eclipsology hypotheses re. Irish #RockArt as a result of my calling into question Dr. Elizabeth Shee Twohig's claims Ireland's #MegalithicArt is geometric non-representational art that "cannot be understood".

I enjoy a good play on words, but the fact remains that Dr. Shee Twohig & the RIA are misleading the public by stubbornly insisting that the "circles and spirals" & "radial line motifs" etc. in Irish #MegalithicArt are geometric "non-representational art" that "cannot be understood".

Some *can* be.

It should be obvious that it's not about me.

I don't need recognition from academics, nor do I need to be "seen as an expert" on #MegalithicArt.

It's about trying to correctly interpret & therefore properly understand the *meaning* of *some* of Ireland's megalithic art to advance knowledge.

I'm not an academic. Dr. Shee Twohig & other #archaeologists & institutions like the Royal Irish Academy need to be more open to non-academics who present credible hypotheses about the *meaning* of Ireland's #MegalithicArt.

I have made good solid cases in blog posts & other online publications.

My perfectly reasonable ideas, that in all probability correctly interpret & therefore shed some actual understanding on the meaning of *some* of Ireland's #MegalithicArt, could have & should have been seriously considered br Dr. Shee Twohig &or the Royal Irish Academy in late 2021, or early 2022.

The scientific astronomical drawing of the 1851 total solar eclipse on the left is almost identical to the captioned photograph of one of the "radial line motif" petroglyphs carved into Dowth's "Stone of the Seven Suns" which was published in TIME-LIFE book 'The Monument Builders'. The "radial line motif" petroglyph from Dowth, a "passage tomb" that has a south-west passage facing the annual "death" of the Sun during the winter solstice sunsets, can be readily interpreted and understood to depict "either the Sun or an eye" as is stated in the caption, but this is a false dichotomy because this "radial line motif" can also by reasonably and plausibly interpreted and understood to be a quite accurate 5 millennia old depiction of the total solar eclipse "eye of God".

Is not the purpose #archaeology to "understand and interpret the past"?

Yet Dr. Elizabeth Shee Twohig & the Royal Irish Academy fail & even refuse to do so.

They abdicate that responsibility by pretending Ireland's #MegalithicArt "cannot be understood", & insisting its meaning remains a "mystery".

A "radial line motif" carved into Dowth's "Stone of the Seven Suns" may represent not just the Sun, but the Sun surrounded by its corona during a total solar eclipse. It compares very well with a scientific astronomical drawing of the 1851 total solar eclipse.

I wonder when there will be a cathartic release of the stubborn academic "blockage" on very reasonably, & quite plausibly, interpreting some of the "circles & crescents" carved into Ireland's #MegalithicArt as the Sun & Moon, & some of the "radial line motifs" as #TotalSolarEclipses?

There's a prominent Irish archaeologist who insists that the #MegalithicArt of Ireland is purely geometric non-representational art that "cannot be understood to have a specific meaning" when multiple researchers have suggested some of what she calls "circles and crescents" depict the Sun and Moon.

Kerbstone 15: Ireland’s Ancient Stone of Secrets

What if a single stone held the key to unlocking the mysteries of a 5,000-year-old civilization?

Deep in Ireland’s Boyne Valley, at the ancient site of Knowth, lies Kerbstone 15 — a seemingly simple slab of stone that may hold profound insight into the Neolithic mind. Far from ordinary, this weathered megalith is etched with intricate carvings: a central cupmark with 20 radiating lines, alongside spirals, arcs, and U-shaped motifs.

Is it art? A star map? An ancient calendar? Or something more metaphysical?

As part of a ring of 124 kerbstones encircling Knowth's main passage tomb, Kerbstone 15 belongs to the largest collection of megalithic art in Europe. And while scholars continue to debate the meaning of its carvings, one truth remains: these stones offer a rare glimpse into a pre-literate culture that aligned its monuments with celestial rhythms, the Earth’s energies, and possibly even the cycle of life and death.

Kerbstone 15 is not just a rock. It’s a portal to prehistoric consciousness, a sacred relic that still whispers across millennia.

I look forward to the day when Dr. Elizabeth Shee Twohig and the Royal Irish Academy will let the light in by acknowledging that some of the #MegalithicArt of Ireland can be understood to represent the Sun, the Moon, solar-lunar cycles, and solar eclipses.

Most ironically, this Dr. Alison Sheridan lecture was brought to my attention by someone closely associated with the Irish archaeological community who was trying to discredit my own amateur research into how #SolarEclipses seem to be represented in Ireland's #MegalithicArt. 🤣😇

The 5 millennia old #MegalithicArt carved into #Newgrange 's Orthostat L19 aka 'The Guardian Stone' *could* represent a #SkyGod inspired by a bird-like pattern that is perceivable in the Sun's corona during some #TotalSolarEclipses.
