some very festive long-nosed looking conks, with lanky black bodies pouring downward and fanning out with their characteristic orange-to-white umbrella shape, decorated even more festively with some surrounding pine needles

some type of fungus with coral-like minuscule holes, spreading over most of the surface of a log, mostly in shade but a few bits catching oblique sunlight, framing a small sprig of bright green young moss in the center

some type of light brown shelf/bracket mushroom, evidently VERY old: its outer surface has cracked like dried mud, and a large missing chip exposes a decaying black interior, woven with a slight sprig of moss

a lush flush of Turkey Tail mushrooms with their signature "alternating layers of colors fanning out in tie-dye fashion" green-whites and light browns

The base of a tree trunk is seen in a winter forest. This thick gray trunk has some green moss, but it is thickly covered in bracket fungi. These fungi are lighter gray with darker rings. There’s a green vine climbing up the trunk as well.

For #FungiFriday I wanted to post these bracket #fungi I encountered growing on a tree trunk in the forest at the Port Hudson State Historic Site in Jackson #Louisiana earlier this month. These appear to be Turkey-Tails or their relatives.

The center of the picture is a log, with a forest see behind it. Growing out of the side and bottom of the log are bracket fungi. The view is from below, showing the creamy white undersides of the fungi. The darker upper sides of the fungi can be seen over the lips of the brackets.

This photo shows the same log from above. The top of these bracket fungi is darker, and striped. The stripes parallel the edges of the fungi, and are tan and white alternating.

Pleurotus australis from above, here a mostly grey coloured mushroom that is growing in the shape of a flat plate from a tree. The edges of the mushroom are lighter in colour and rippled, from whence pleurotus complex gets the name ‘oyster mushroom’ the top of the stem looks to have been eaten a little bit by bugs.

This big white mushroom stands about 8 inches tall, with a contorted cap larger than my hand.

A handful of brown striated shelf fungi grow on the side of a deep cut in a fallen log.

A collection of seeds hangs from a deciduous tree; the light of the sky behind them carefully highlights the veins in the tree's narrow leaves.

Spotted several new (to me) #fungi on today's walk. Haven't seen a puffball like this in years, and the standing pale #shroom is enormous! Trails were soggy, but the surprises are worth the squelch.
