Top left:grey/blue stone ball sculpture to left; green/yellow grass: looking down over pale blue expanse of water: surrounded by brown heather; leading to brown/blue high hills and mountains. Top right and bottom left: similar to top left but the sculpture this time is brown/grey stone wall, long and narrow. Bottom right: as others but with no sculpture.

The mass slaughter of gannets on Sula Sgeir - the Guga Hunt - controversially returned this year. Have a read of my article and let me know what you think.

An absolute disgrace. What kind of humans indulge in this cruelty, especially with such gusto? Shame on #NatureScot for permitting it

The cries of the Kittiwake were heard all around the Isle of May this week. If ever doubtful of their name they call it to you from the skies and cliffs…..
These fledglings contemplated life on the wing.

Another fantastic trip to the Isle of May with friends . The Auks had all left. Raftsof pufflings off the coast. Kittiwakes fledglings stretching their wings. A haven for butterflies and moths. Video by Lara C #birdingscotland #isleofmay #ukwildlife #naturescot
This Swallow contemplating its life choices of migrating to Scotland for ‘summer’ 🤣 Hoping for a drier trip to the Isle of May in a few weeks. #isleofmay #naturescot #swallow #migration #birdingscotland
Picture of two puffins taken on the Isle of May, Scotland. There are rocks in the foreground creating a pleasing soft foreground to the picture.
Enjoyed a fabulous trip over to the Isle of May this week. There was no shortage of puffins. This is one of my favourite shots among the 200 I’ve chosen to keep!

Time to bin #NatureScot and rebuild from the ground up. Scotland deserves better:
“NatureScot is riven with problems. Grouse shooting industry lobbyists have infiltrated its boardroom; traditional “kill everything” attitudes dominate its directorship.”
I am profoundly disappointed by the latest obstacle preventing a beaver release project with overwhelming public support. Despite two years of extensive volunteer and charity efforts, it appears a small number of people have managed to halt this vital initiative.

Spraint (Otter poo) is used as a territorial marker in winter with the bright green of regular sprainting spots standing out a mile. We have between 25 and 40 territories in Tiree so see if you can spot one when you are out and about.

A great #Guardian interview with outgoing #Naturescot CEO Francesca Oswaska: she is right. #Nature is telling us to act but we're not doing enough quickly enough. There's still time if we invest and Government leads. Nature & future generations deserve more. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...
Image shows a male Orange-tip butterfly resting on a Garlic Mustard flowerhead. The distinctive mottled green and white pattern on the butterfly’s underwings is visible, as is the bright orange on his forewings.
#Scottish Biodiversity Indicator trends for 🦋 published by #NatureScot this week: www.nature.scot/climate-chan... based on #ButterflyConservation ‘s #UKBMS data from monitored sites. Good news for Speckled Wood📈, Orange-tips & 8 other species. Less good for habitat specialists like Grayling📉
