Louis XIV statue is dwarfed by two giant, rusty metal sculptures that frame it and the grand entrance to Versailles. This view is looking out from the palace gates toward trees and the town.

Meet Cedric. Can't remember what it was actually called but it had a very distinguished name! Stumbled across this scaly beast sitting on top of a cupboard at the end of the long gallery next to the doorway out at Kiplin Hall. Photograph shows a stuffed crocodile sitting above a cabinet with the edge of a cream decorative door frame to the left. The crocodile's mouth is a tiny bit open to show off its sharp teeth. Its beady eye follows the viewer. Its back foot is slightly raised as if it's about to start walking.

Photograph taken of a 1940s green-grey loo roll holder against a well worn wall, with a roll of Izal medicated loo roll in place. Two of the rooms at Kiplin Hall were kept in the state they were in, when the beautiful property was requisitioned for military rehab for soldiers in the 1940s. Remember this pointless excuse for loo roll from primary school days! Dreadful stuff 😂

We visited a number of excellent museums when on holiday in Venice back in January. The Palazzo Fortuny was my absolute favourite. We did the tour of the house with the audio guide. Towards the end of the tour you seem to retrace your steps but then get taken through a door you have not ventured through before, stepping through was a ‘wow’ moment for me as you feel as though you’ve gone out into a garden but you’re still inside. It is Fortuny Winter Garden room, planned and created by him. In the words of the museum “the creation gives the space a great luminosity. An ideal “enchanted garden” animated by allegorical figures, satyrs and exotic animals: all set in a “Veronese-style” Corinthian loggia, embellished by luxuriant plant motifs, verdant garlands and sophisticated drapes”. In the photo we are looking at a wall that has been beautifully painted and adorned with trompe l’œil, and in the foreground are comfortable sofas, chairs and a table. A fabulous place to relax if only it were allowed.

Photograph taken on the way down a grand staircase at Lyme Park looking at three people in dressed up in Jane Austen era costume. It was all quite bizarre seeing the mixture of visitors in everyday outfits and those in historical costume...then I walked past the 'dressing up room' and all made sense! Spent the day trying to get photos of this strange time travel. Most were loving every second of their make believe. Image shows a hallway with red walls, huge paintings and three huge pillars supporting the landing above. There is a tall, ornate doorway through to the next room at the far end. The floor is polished wood with long red patterned runners leading to the doorway. An illuminated lantern hangs overhead. Three figures in empire-line dresses and bonnets are moving along the hallway. The person at the back is lifting her blue dress slightly to reveal jeans and trainers underneath. Quite the juxtaposition!

This medieval monastery garden is hidden between the Cathedral (Domkerk) and the University Hall of Utrecht University. It dates back to the period 1390–1440 and is surrounded by a Gothic cloister.

Peeping through a window of an antiques shop in Honfleur/France. The room is stuffed with 18/19thc Fünftürer, pictures, etc. The photo focuses on a dress in 18thc style, complete with a fichu, a necklace and a tirara. Photograph taken in the gardens of Ripley Castle in Yorkshire. Didn't spot this initially but so glad when I did. Wonder how many people walk past and never see it. Image shows an old white door within a warm-toned stone wall in a garden. The door is well hidden by the huge, old wisteria that twists its way over the door and along the wall. Once flowering, the door may vanish completely! In the bottom right hand corner is a small clump of beautiful yellow narcissus.
