Photograph taken on the way down a grand staircase at Lyme Park looking at three people in dressed up in Jane Austen era costume. It was all quite bizarre seeing the mixture of visitors in everyday outfits and those in historical costume...then I walked past the 'dressing up room' and all made sense! Spent the day trying to get photos of this strange time travel. Most were loving every second of their make believe. Image shows a hallway with red walls, huge paintings and three huge pillars supporting the landing above. There is a tall, ornate doorway through to the next room at the far end. The floor is polished wood with long red patterned runners leading to the doorway. An illuminated lantern hangs overhead. Three figures in empire-line dresses and bonnets are moving along the hallway. The person at the back is lifting her blue dress slightly to reveal jeans and trainers underneath. Quite the juxtaposition!

Collage of two photographs on the theme of #UpstairsDownstairs. Love a library and always spend more time reading the spines of the books than looking at anything else in the room. Wanted to use a collage to create the feeling of a servant seeing the library bell ringing and imagining the room upstairs. Two images are separated diagonally. Top area shows a view down the huge wall of built-in oak bookcases, full of literary treasures at Lyme Park in Cheshire. The bottom section looks up at a brass servant's bell against a dark wooden horizontal panel with pale cream lettering 'library'. This was taken at Speke Hall in Liverpool.

Photograph taken of a marvellous piece of stained glass in a large window at Lyme Park, Cheshire. This was part of a full year of individual months celebrated in stained glass. Leaded glass panel within a dark wood frame. The panel is a rectangle with a central diamond shape. The four corners are a tomato colour. The central diamond panel shows a painted scene of 'February', which seems to be a lot of people (potentially all blokes) partying around a dice game on a table. It's quite a random scene with a lot to unpick! Apparently it illustrates the 'labours of the months'. Apart from the revellers there's also an owl sitting on a moon, a strange looking dog, someone playing what looks like a grill, a broom with a smoking candle within its sticks, two fish in a bubble in the air. Colours are ochre, deep purple, navy, lime green (hat feathers) and pale blue (tablecloth). Delightful but very random! Lyme House is amazing to visit if you're in the area and has wonderful parkland perfect for a picnic 😊.

Photograph taken before the open doorway to the fancy orangery at Lyme Park, Cheshire. A stone doorframe with open cream-coloured wooden door and tall clear glass panels either side give a view into a plant-filled orangery. Patterned tiles on the floor lead the eye to the central circular, multi-tiered fountain. Tall tree fern leaves stretch over above the scene and into frame, trapped in their warmth by the glass ceiling. Lots of other green plants at lower levels. Took ages to get this shot without too many visitors in frame. In the end I got bored of waiting so blocked the entrance with my poise 😂. Lyme Park is a lovely day out and the fictional TV home of Mr Darcy. Run by the National Trust.

A 3 x 3 collage of various wood carvings of characterful faces, taken at three properties: Speke Hall, Liverpool (Tudor) Lyme Park, Cheshire (Elizabethan) Samlesbury Hall, Lancashire (Tudor) All in dark wood and most taken from a partial side angle so the light illuminates the features. Makes me think of the various expressions seen on Christmas Day including someone worse for wear from festive booze (middle bottom), the poker face of irritation of the chef (middle top) and the furiousness of overtired kids (or adults!) as the day progresses (bottom right).

Photograph taken of a huge painting by Attilio Baccani (1867) of the very beautiful Emily Jane Wodehouse, Lady Newton. She is dressed in a deep green velvet dress with cream lace edging and a red rose at her chest. She has stunning auburn hair and pale skin. The painting has an ornate gold frame and is hung on a tomato-red wall. Would like to have found some fascinating facts about her as a woman in her own right, but all I could locate was her breeding tally of five children. I would like to think she had a dry wit, played a mean hand of cards and could canter on a horse faster than anyone in Cheshire. The painting hangs at Lyme Park in Cheshire. A wonderful day out for the gardens, architecture and Mr Darcy fans. Expertly run by The National Trust.

Stone facade of Lyme Park in Cheshire. Lots of architectural features including composite columns (scrolls of ionic fame with a little but of fancy Corinthian thrown in). The house is Tudor and Elizabethan at its heart. However, in the C18th, its facades were remodelled by Italian architect Giacomo Leoni in a classical style. Photograph taken looking up at an angle so the pediment at the top looks almost flat (it isn't in reality). Blue sky behind. Lyme Park is run very well by the National Trust. Great day out, especially if you're into architecture, interiors, Pride and Prejudice or beautiful grounds.
