Islet from aged mouse vs islet from young mice after 10 weeks of IF - IHC for Nkx6.1

Islet from aged mouse vs islet from young mice after 10 weeks of IF - IHC for Nkx6.1

Today, we report that chronic intermittent fasting impairs beta-cell maturation and function in adolescent mice. Using scRNAseq, we delineated a "maturation score" for beta-cells. Long-term IF good if you're older, might be harmful if you are still developing!

Emerging debates and resolutions in brown adipose tissue research The explosive growth in the study of human BAT has led over time to lively debates over central physiological concepts. This perspective discusses six areas of current disagreement and proposes experiments to achieve resolutions and move the field forward.

Since 2007, there's been a surge in studies investigating the function of BAT. Along the way, there's been much debate on various topics.

In this perspective, we highlight the importance of carefully considering your cooling protocol when studying BAT🔥in humans.❄️

Advising governments about science is essential but difficult. So train people to do it A great scientist doesn’t necessarily make an effective science adviser — but schooling and practice can help to bridge the gap.

Every government needs effective science advisers; not every scientist is a born adviser but schooling and practice can help to bridge the gap, as we argue in this week’s Nature’s editorial
