Nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, licorice, tobacco, light earth, herbs, spices and light aluminum. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, currants, light wood, coffee, black tea, herbs, peppercorn, light earth and spices. Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This Merlot from Lalande de Pomerol in Bordeaux is spicy and entertaining. Nicely balanced and complex. Drinking very nicely now, as a 6 year old, and will continue to age nicely in the next 5 years. Needs an hour in the decanter to open up, but showing a pretty nose right out of the bottle. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. Kosher and not Mevushal. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $50.

Fruity nose of red and black fruits with wood, earth, tobacco and chocolate notes. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with blueberries, plums, cooked cherries, oak, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, earth and herbs. Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a very tasty Merlot from Pomerol. Complex and interesting. Spicy, elegant and fruit forward. Drinking very nicely now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years. I had the 2016 vintage last year and it was even better. Would be nice to revisit it in a few years. Nicely balanced and easy drinking. Good by itself or with food. A blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 12 months in (50% new) French oak barrels. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $65.

Strong nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with nice complexity. Showing black fruits with cedar, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices, earth and peppercorn. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Merlot from Côtes de Bourg in the Right Bank of Bordeaux. Still very young, and needs 7 years in the bottle to mature properly, but already enjoyable even by itself. This 2022 was a great vintage, and is already very approachable at its youth. Will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years. Nicely balanced and rich. Fruit forward and elegant. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. A blend of mostly Merlot with Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels. 15% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $80.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a delicious 14 year old second wine from this Second Growth château. Fruit forward and elegant. Rich and expressive. Although not from a great vintage, it is drinking beautifully now, and will continue to age nicely in the next few years. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years. Nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. Complex and interesting. Good by itself or with food. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Aged for 14 months in (15% new) French Oak barrels. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $55.

Fresh fruits on the nose with cedar, licorice and chocolates notes. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, blackberries, light oak, spices, chocolates, coffee, licorice, light vegetables, tobacco, light earth, herbs and black pepper. Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a delicious 5 year old Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from Pauillac. Elegant, fruit forward and rich. Wine Spectator 96 points. Wine Advocate 94 points. Still young, and a tad subdued at the moment, but with good structure and nice complexity. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Already showing a great mouthfeel, nicely balanced and good by itself or with food. A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot. Aged in (75% new) French Oak barrels. A great sipping wine that will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $90.
