A metallic sheen purple, bullet shaped beetle sitting on green unopened flowers of a Melaleuca. White flowers made up of very long stamens are in the background. The beetle has lemon/beige markings on its wings. It looks like an exclamation mark in the top half , a tilde (wavey dash) below and to finish with (appropriately a full stop). eg from top to bottom ! ~ . The thorax is all purple with a side line of yellow/beige.

This photo is taken slightly to the side of overhead on the beetle which is sitting at 45° on the photo.

Everyone loves a jewel #beetle. This is Castiarina picta, which seems locally abundant but I think may be only found in Western Australia. #insect #buprestidae #invertebrate

Mostly lateral, slightly front-ish view of a jewel beetle on a neutral grey background. It's a chonky specimen, the integument is various dark metallic shades of blue, green, bronze, purple, and black. Pale ivory/yellowish tufts of hair (setae) are regularly covering the pronotum and elytra. The ones on the elytra are shorter and arranged in longitudinal rows. At the corner of the elytron there is a dense appressed patch of brownish orange setae.

Image of a small Jewel beetle on a buttercup. 6-7 cm, blue head and pronotum, and shields with dark red bordeaux and a tinge of blue and green at the basis. Hidden #beetlegems on @bsky.app. Anthaxia Salicis, South France. Most people think you can only find such gems in the tropics. It occurs in Belgium too. The larvae prefer old oaks, the adults are often seen on Rananculus species or on oak #beetles #coleoptera #buprestidae #ElkeDageenInsect #entomology

Flat-headed apple borer. We have a very sickly tree in the yard that is likely its home. This species is apparently fond of sun bathing on light-colored surfaces. Rather dull colors for a buprestid.
