🏆 #FSPrintMonday Winner Announcement 🏆
🥇 Congrats @legend147.bsky.social
A striking image with dramatic contrast between the green aurora and the night sky, drawing the eye instantly. The lighthouse provides a strong focal point, while adding scale and balance to the scene’s natural beauty.

This is a photograph of a visitor in an art gallery (Tate Britain, in London). She is standing in front of the painting "The Moon and Sleep" by the artist Simeon Solomon. The painting depicts the heads of two young women facing each other. Both have brown hair and are shown against a blue background. Both are wearing clothing with pronounced fabric creases. The clothing of the one on the right is brown. The pale crescent of the moon is immediately behind the head of the woman on the left in the painting. The young woman standing in front of the painting (but not obscuring it) also has brown hair. She seems to be of a similar age to the two in the painting. Like them, her jacket has prominent creases on it. It is brown, matching the colour of the clothing of one of them. Her face is seen in profile, as are both the women in the painting. The woman outside the painting has a pale, bright earring, which alludes to the moon in the painting. The background to the photograph is also blue. The photograph is titled ‘People Matching Artworks’.

I enjoy the work of Stefan Draschan (stefandraschan.com) who photographs People Matching Artworks in galleries.
Here’s my own attempt.

Sanderling feeding at dawn
Sanderlings were foraging along the shore for a little time this morning, before darting off somewhere - this one finding a little morsel. Pale yellow sunrise colours only today.

Star the vixen (female fox) is my subject again this week. I’ve chosen a 16 by 9 ratio, landscape aspect composition with her as the central focus, facing the camera as she trotted towards me through the woodland. Her fur is a rich reddish-brown on the back and head, with a lighter greyish edge to her face and a white muzzle. Her chest and belly are a sooty black colour with a distinctive white patch on her chest that gave rise to her name. Her ears are large, pointed, and have black tips, facing forward showing that she’s relaxed as she approaches me. Her eyes are a striking amber colour and show her to be looking intently at the me. She’s surrounded by a dense carpet of vegetation surrounding the tree that she is trotting beneath. The foreground and background are filled with tall green grass and numerous stalks of emerging bluebells. Most of the mature trees in this woodland are allowed to grow a carpet of dense wildflowers and grasses beneath the canopy. This is to provide good habitat for wildlife and protect the ground above the roots of the trees that could become compacted by heavy footfall. The background is softly blurred (bokeh effect), vibrant green of fresh spring grass. I got low to the ground for the perspective, placing the viewer at eye level with the fox and enhancing the sense of immersion in the natural habitat. Being on a level with wildlife like foxes will make you seem far less threatening and encourages them to behave naturally. There was a soft, diffuse light from high cloud and partial shade from newly unfurling leaves, which evenly illuminated both my subject and her surroundings, giving the scene a sense of calm, that I hope my exposure and processing help convey to the viewer.

The focus of this landscape oriented image is a seed feeder hanging from a tree in my garden. I’ve had the joy of a number of siskin visiting regularly of winter and into spring. They’re great little characters full of vitality and always chattering. Here we have the four available spaces on the feeder already occupied and a number of other birds hoping to force their way in, but the ones in place won’t give up easily. Their battles consist of a lot of posturing and shouting until a new order evolves. In addition to the four there are two clinging to on higher up the feeder and one flying in from the right.

My local stream, the Bronie Burn. What looks like milfoil in a relatively fast flowing straightened stream in rural Aberdeenshire. Gentle ripples in the surface of the water screen the plants below, providing a dual layer of interest in a textural image.

Walking along the canal towards Brindley Place, the towpath runs alongside a patterned brick wall. The low morning sun casts long shadows from the lamppost across its surface. I took this photograph from the opposite side of the canal, a location I often revisit to capture this interplay of light and shadow. A pedestrian entered the scene at just the right moment, adding a human element to the composition. The warm tones of the wall give the impression of reflecting the early sunlight.
