Tan-colored smooth caterpillar with a few bumps and dark specks gripped onto a vertical stem with its rear prolegs, extending out stick-like in a straight, rigid posture against a dark background.
"I'm an #inchworm caterpillar, but I identify as stick." When disturbed, some #Geometridae family #caterpillars will straighten out in a stick-like posture to avoid detection. It's an effective form of #crypsis even the color/texture doesn't match well.

Idaea seriata gehört zur Familie der Spanner (Geometridae), Unterfamilie Sterrhinae. Diese Art zeigt die typischen Merkmale: die charakteristische grau-braune Grundfärbung mit den feinen, wellenförmigen Querlinien und der gesprenkelten Zeichnung. Der Graue Zwergspanner ist in Europa weit verbreitet und fliegt meist in zwei Generationen von Mai bis August. Die Raupen ernähren sich von verschiedenen niedrigen Pflanzen und überwintern als Puppe. Der Graue Zwergspanner (Idaea seriata) sitzt mit ausgebreiteten Flügeln an einer hellen Hauswand. Er zeigt die charakteristische grau-weißliche Grundfärbung mit feinen Querlinien und gesprenkelter Zeichnung.
Der Graue Zwergspanner (Idaea seriata) ruht tagsüber häufig auf hellen Hauswänden. Die Flügelspannweite des gezeigten Exemplars betrug gerade einmal 2 cm.
