A photo of the Mobile Groundling Moth, Condica mobilis, from the side as it rests on a white sheet. This is a bronzy brown moth with a raised ruffled area of scales just behind the head. There are tiny white spots on the leading edge of the wing and a larger white spot about 2/3rds of the way down the wing. The head is almost lost in shadow, the dark eye just visible.
A photo of what I believe is the Oblique Zale Moth, Zale obliqua, a broadly triangular gray and brown moth taken from above as it rests on a white sheet. The moth has a raised area of scales just behind the small head. The moth's antennae are slender and extend outwards at an obtuse angle. The moth's wings are marked with scalloped bands of color, dark gray at the front, a darker gray, then a wavy darker band, then a final median gray band. There are brown splotches on the edges and the trailing edges of both fore and hind wings are scalloped.
A photo of a bright orange ichneumonid wasp in the genus Enicospilus from above as it rests on a white sheet. This wasp has a yellow head with large glossy black eyes and long slender orange antennae which extend outwards at a near 45 degree angle. The wasp's thorax narrows towards the abdomen which is long and slender with a final widening at the base. The wasp's clear wings are held over its back.
A photo of the Brown Pine Lacewing, Hemerobious stigma from the side as it rests on light blue painted wood. The lacwing's large elongated oval wings are brown, lace-like in venation, and transparent, revealing the plump abdomen below. The lacewing's head is slender, its eyes comparatively large and glossy, its slender antennae stretching lefwards.
Even in semi-tropical Southmost Georgia (almost Florida) I don't normally expect lots of bug friends in January, but it's been warm (83F/28C today) and last night had some visitors. Species info in the #AltText
