We interrupt the day's #BeetlePosting with a #SelfCare #PSA. Your #Mantidfly friend (Dicromantispa interrupta) knows that the #Holidays can be a rough time for many of us for many reasons. Try to find your peace; remember to hydrate, and snack when you need to. πŸ™β€οΈ

Always just the best bug encounter :) They really do help me pass the time until we get a District 9 sequel. The hard bit is when you need to try ditch them outside in a dark corner of the garden. #mantidfly

A tan colored mantidfly resting on the shiny black surface of a lamp pole. The mantifly's mantid-like raptorial arms (which give these flies their name) are dark rusty brown and held underneath its small triangular head which has large bronze metallic eyes. The thorax descends tube-like behind the head to a boxy rear part from which the rear pair of legs emerge. Long lcy transparent wings extend back covering the curved abdomen.

A photo of a brown and tan mantidfly from the side as it walks across a white sheet. The mantidfly has a small head that is mostly large round bronze metallic eyes with long slender antennae pointing forward. The bespined brown and tan mantid-like raptorial claws which gives these insects their common names, is tucked up underneath the head. The thorax has a long neck-like tubular structure that sweeps down to a tan striped box like structure that the other 2 sets of legs come from. Long transparent ovate net-like wings cover the brown and tan striped abdomen.

A photo of a green mantidfly from the side. The mantid fly has a small triangular head with large round metallic eyes on the side of its head. The mantid-like raptorial arms which gives these insects their names are tucked close under the head and are a bright green. Its neck is brown, but the rest of the body and the edges of the wings are green. The wings cover the thick abdomen and are clear and are covered in net-like veins.

This neat little bug that I found outside is called a "mantidfly", a bug related to the mantis that is in the lacewing family and certain species mimic wasps. They are usually harmless and don't have stingers like actual wasps.

Aliens on Earth? #Climaciella brunnea is called the #wasp #mantidfly, Fam. #Mantispidae, for its resemblance to wasps. The larvae locate wolf #spider females. They enter her egg sac as it is being formed. From within the protected sac, it will eat the spider’s eggs. #Predation #Lycosidae

A photo of the front of a brown and tan mantidly which is resting on light blue painted wood. Large dark bronze iridescent hemispherical eyes are on the sides of the mantidfly's narrow triangular head. The dark spined front raptorial arms, much like those of a praying mantids which gives this insect it's name, are held closely under the head, ready to seize any unsuspecting prey which might wander in range. The tan legs and rear body of the fly are just out of focus.
