If you script what you’ll say so you won’t be dismissed…
If you shrink yourself to seem “reasonable”…
That’s not drama. That’s survival memory.
The body keeps receipts. 📋

Medical trauma is real.
Being dismissed.
Being restrained.
Being told it’s “just anxiety.”
Healthcare can heal.
It can also harm.

One week until the dentist. I’m glad I looked at my calendar because the dentist is HARD for me as an #autistic , #medicalPTSD and #TraumaRecovery gal. Preparing ahead of time will likely help make it less stressful and triggering. Being in that chair with them poking about SUCKS.

Medical trauma isn’t weakness. It’s what happens when the place meant to heal you becomes a source of harm. #MedicalPTSD #PatientAdvocacy

Phew! I remembered to grab my mints!

Extremely triggering appointment give me the metallic adrenaline-filled taste in my mouth. I haven’t needed a mint at an appointment since April last year but they’re always nice to have on hand for appointments like these.

I have 59 minutes until my lady doctor appointment.

I’m thankful I am allowed an extra long appointment (still only 40 minutes) because all of the invasive touching, bright lights, talking, and triggers are a LOT.

I have a soft morning planned to start.

"Dear Docs,

Think twice before ignoring the next chronic illness patient who is clinging to life & sanity--Almost all my patients today had medical- PTSD.

Before sneering at the next one, remember--It could just as easily be you, or someone you love.
Rule #1--Listen to them."

2022- minor surgery on my uterus.
2023- two skin cancer surgeries and an anterior tongue tie release.
2024- deviated septum surgery.
2025- two minor surgeries on my butt.

I say this every year and we laugh- I REALLY hope I don’t need to have any surgeries in 2026!

I become on edge and agitated just sitting in the waiting room at the clinic where I go see my GP. And my psych ward traumas are a whole other thing I deal with too

Having health anxiety sucks 😢 I already feel like I’m being a drama queen and/or a hypochondriac looking for trouble, it’s a thing thats hard for me to shake due to years of being dismissed by doctors

What is Medical PTSD? “Medical PTSD” is a term we use to talk about trauma sustained and perpetuated in a medical setting. It’s technically not a diagnosis— but it’s a syndrome of stressors, triggers, and symptoms that,…

Big hugs from my husband and baking were the right coping skills this evening! I can feel my face, feel relatively calm while still feeling unsettled, and am happy to have a passion for making beautiful treats that make me smile.

A cozy morning to start off the day.

My mug tells it true!

Clean little kitty paws! 🐾

I’m glad Ross got the day off so he could go with me to my butt doctor appointment. Even if the procedure doesn’t need to happen, it will be nice to have Ross with me.

Good evening Sky friends 💜✨💜 just wanted to say hi. Yesterday was very draining physically, mentally, and emotionally from all the panic attacks, flashbacks, crying jags, and holding my body with a lot of tension without realizing that I was. I’ll elaborate more.

It's called #MedicalGaslighting! It has happened to me all my life (including my childhood and teens) aside from a doctor listening in 2009 and 2014 and getting me into remission. He retired, I met more doctors who didn't believe women get AS, my disease was left untreated, and it crippled me. Thankfully I met a new doctor in 2022 who has changed my life and done everything in his power to help me.

The saddest parts of all of this are
1) I knew something was really wrong and was ridiculed for it constantly. It turns out I was right all along.
2) I lost my mobility and health and it could've been prevented. I'd still be sick but maybe not so sick.

This is why I advocate so strongly and help others learn how to talk to their doctors and push for answers.

"You ever know that there's something wrong with your health and you keep going back to the doctor with the same issues just to be repeatedly dismissed and then, months or years later, you see a doctor who actually listens and it turns out you were right and now you're stuck wondering why it had to get this bad before someone listened, why it took so long to get answers and how your health could be if you were taken seriously originally."

My head CT (with contrast) has been scheduled for Monday when they said it would probably be scheduled much later. Hmm. Head CTs always make me nervous. This CT is checking to see if there’s a lack of blood flow to certain parts of my brain that could explain my myriad of symptoms.
