Satellite, 2 Bricks & Silver Y
Satellite, 2 Bricks, Mottled Umber & Silver Y
Winter Moth
After all my pessimism, it proved a quite productive trap this morning in VC20 with 11:9. I have convinced myself the Satellite is a different individual to the 8th (an advantage of taking photos). I think 1 of the Bricks I saw a few days ago. Also Red-green Carpet & Silver Y #teammoth #migrantmoths
Silver Y
Silver Y
A quiet night in VC20 despite the mild temperatures. Wind and rain until midnight! 8:7 macro (yesterday 5:5) but it did include a Silver Y which normally wouldn't be noteworthy but only my 8th garden record of 2025! 18 year average is 29! #teammoth #migrantmoths
Yellow-browed Warbler
Crimson Speckled
This afternoon at Dungeness, the Yellow-browed Warbler ringed at the Obs, thanks to Charlotte for letting the locals know. Also, the Crimson Speckled found by MC earlier, and still in the same place when I went back with him.

Continuing the run of migrants: added Scarce Bordered Straw to the mix today. Vestal, Pale Mottled Willow and eight Rusty-dot Pearls. VC59

Convolvulus Hawk-moth (Agrius convolvuli).
I think I had another Convolvulus Hawk-moth in my garden the other night. I'm not totally sure, though; there may be other hawk-moths that nectar on Nicotiana. The moth's silhouette was visible, and I could hear its wings beating quickly, but it was too dark to identify it.

Convolvulus Hawk-moth (Agrius convolvuli).
This morning's Convolvulus Hawk-moth shot. I have a procedure after taking moth photos, and posting the shot online is the penultimate step before putting it in a digital folder where it might never be seen again.

Great night for migrants. Blair’s Mocha (x 2), Rush Veneer, Vestal and Palpita vitrealis.
Happy Hampshire moth-ers. #TeamMoth #MigrantMoths #MothsMatter #UKWildlife
Migrant moths arent a big thing in North #Northumberland but even up here a few were in the trap last night.
1 Diamond Back, 1 Beet Moth, 2 Rush Veneer and best of all my first county Palpita vitrialis. Possibly a VC68 first? There are only about a dozen county records... #teammoth #MigrantMoths

Lydd on Sea VC15, on what was turning into a disappointing night, an Orache Moth was lurking at the bottom of the second trap.
An absolute stunner, the green colour really is that bright and vibrant

Buff-tip, a moth that mimics a broken twig, resting on a corner of a cut tip of a branch. The background is out-of-focus pink roses.
Buff-tip posing for camera. Last night’s trap had 173 moths of 53 sp, with 13 year ✅ - nothing rare, but a Dark Sword-grass & Diamondback were #migrantmoths. Durham, VC66. #TeamMoth @teesbirds.bsky.social

Sandy carpet, subtly marked with sandy tones on white.
Hurscombe nature reserve West Somerset today: just one very worn Small pearl bordered fritillary (9 found 2/6/25). 10 Silver Y but no other migrant moths found. Sandy carpet a nice find (my 2nd ever) in a long list of common moths. #teammoth #migrantmoths

Rusty-dot Pearl wasn’t really the #migrantmoths that I was hoping for but still a nice December addition, as was Musotima nitidalis (Marbled Fern). Five species appeared that I didn’t record the night before - amazed by the variation each night! #norfolkmoths #teammoth Chestnut, November Moth (agg)
