A close up photograph of a beautiful brown moth that looks like a crinkly brown autumn leaf.
Now we are leaving the beautiful St Ives, can #MothSky tell me what this beauty is, please?

To everyone out there being treated like the village weirdo for trying to show a cool moth to extended family this weekend #mothsky
Two pictures of a brown moth with angular wings
A cropped image of the brown moth with angular wings. It looks very similar to a leaf you would find in the fall, which is probably for camouflage.
Is there a #mothsky or #bugsky? I was curious to know what kind of moth this is. On another site, I described it as "paper plane looking ass"

Photo of an Imperial Moth taken in Northern Virginia USA
My first time seeing an Imperial Moth, ever! #naturesky #mothsky #moths #imperialmoth #virginia #bugsky
Top side of an Imperial moth among conifer branches, featuring brown splotches across yellow wings.
Underside of an Imperial moth among conifer branches, sans brown splotches on its yellow wings.
Spotted this "Imperial" resident hanging out on a small pine tree by our garage this morning. #Bugsky #Mothsky
A rather hungry spotted orbweaver on the younger, smaller side
A plant bug of some sort, with the elytra and wings looking like a painting of a mountain on fire
A very pale and slightly translucent geometer moth with darker veiny patterns on the wings
A larger version of the ground beetle from before, this one is on a cherry tree leaf for some reason and has more yellowish legs

A long, off-white moth with a bit of a snoot
An orange wing geometer moth that managed to get out of the pool without help, it's very yellow
A variety of ground beetle with a black body and orange legs that got fished out of the pool barely alive, possibly a strawberry seed beetle?
Two cricket frogs on lily pads, the one on the right a bit smaller and more illuminated by the headlamp; this one was calling just moments before but did not appreciate the spotlight
"Nightlife" is an understatement ngl

I forgot my camera on Saturday night so I didn't take many photos. But I did capture a short video of this adorable Scarce Silver Y warming up for flight and rubbing rain drops off its nose whilst on the shelter of my knee (it was a very wet morning)!

A cute fluffy white Miller moth
Apparently Moth Face Friday is a thing, and that's a bandwagon I'm more than willing to jump on, so have an adorable Miller moth to end the week on a high!

At 650m elevation checking my highest trap in the morning and enjoying the sunrise and sea of mist below
At 600m setting up my traps between two areas of scree, with a view down to Allt Cristie Mor and across to Creag an Lochain, Carn Creagach, Carn Bhac and Carn Liath
I think it's going to be hard to top the views from my study site up Carn Na Moine on Friday night for the Summer Solstice. Especially the way the mist pooled around the mountains in the morning 🤩
Panorama shot so open photo to appreciate full effect.

Another night trapping, another disgusting view!
Very mild night so far, and not too windy by Cairngorms open moorland standards... so hopefully I'll have a good catch tonight 🙏

A shot looking down Glen Ey towards Inverey where I am surveying the moth communities of burned and unburned moor. This is one of my burned moorland sites, you can see the burn-bleached woody stems of heather in the foreground, the green leaves you can see is blaeberry making the most of the newly available sunlight. You can see the patchwork of burns on the hill to the right. Burning is done to create a matrix of vegetation age and structure (much like the dynamism created by wildfire). Some people consider managed burning to be an outdated eyesore and source of carbon dioxide.
What an impressive trapping location! 🤩
This shot of my Glen Ey moorland study site really demonstrates the benefit of travel-trapping and smaller traps that run off a single lightweight battery.
You can't beat processing your trap whilst the sun rises over views like this!
