High Peaks by Tom Chesshyre.
A 363 mile walk around the #PeakDistrict. This is a travelogue, not a walking book. An enjoyable, easy read, informative, and gently funny. I really liked it. Though much of the narrative (and walking) is outside of the National Park, it adds context. #BookSky #Books ππ
A sunlit swan on the calm waters of a large ornamental pond. The swan's body is facing toward the left of the frame but its neck is turned so that its head, seen in profile, is looking the opposite way over its back. Its body is mirrored in the gently rippled water in the foreground but the reflection of its head and neck is blocked by the low stone wall of the pond, which runs along the bottom of the picture. In the background, ivy is growing at the edge of the pond on the left and in the centre of the frame, while white bubbling water on the right reveals a water supply inflow.
Today's Bird of the Day theme is "Long Necks"
I passed this swan on the rather large garden pond of a rather large house on the outskirts of Buxton back in 2019.

Sunrise in the Peck District. The bottom third is moorland dotted with a few trees. Just before the land meets the horizon it dips and in the dip is a layer of morning mist. The sky nearest to the horizon is yellow and orange as the sun begins to rise. Above is blue with stripes of clouds.

A path through woodland. Sunlight is shining through the trees' upper leaves so that foliage and shrubs lower down in the foreground are in dappled shade. The path subsequently opens out into a sunlit clearing in the background. On the left, on the border of the two areas, there is a large crooked tree. Its trunk and branches appear dark, pretty much in silhouette against the rest of the scene.

An sitting room in a stately home. There is a fire glowing in a hearth in the background. The fireplace is tiled and has an ornately carved wooden surround. Decorative, illuminated stockings hang in a row from the mantelpiece. The room is low lit by lamps and by Christmas decorations. There is a tree covered in baubles and fairy lights in the foreground on the left hand side. The ceiling is festooned with twisted garlands of foliage and more fairy lights. There are several leather armchairs dotted around the room.
A festive twist...
