Athena actually commemorates a rather dark chapter in local, and, in fact, national and international history. She stands to honour the 81 women and men who were executed in Prestonpans during the witch-hunts of the 16th and 17th centuries. But, just like Athena- the Greek Goddess of Wisdom- she does not stand as a victim or a stereotypical "old hag", but rather as the sculptor Andy Scott described as "a proud and dignified woman". Interestingly, the last woman executed for witchcraft in Prestonpans was named Athena. And, since dogs are fantastic judges of character, this Athena must have been a nice and caring lady because Walter & Arthur absolutely loved visiting her!

Along the Prestonpans coastal path/wall at low tide on a gloriously sunny day, houses reflected in the tidal pool against the wall. Underfoot all is slimy seaweed. In the far distance an annoying jack russell/spaniel cross gallops to find a nice stinky pile of God knows what to roll in.
There is a dog in this picture, but I had to let him off the lead or be towed like Lara Croft in that scene with the collapsing ice tunnel, no sledge and two huskies, except with seaweed, really rubbish trainers and a mutt built like a small bison. #Prestonpans #BitSlippy

It seems odd this is a discontinuous route connection at this critical junction. Why are there no continuous footways where the proposal crosses Hope Place at the pub and the old road cul-de-sac beside the race course Could the southern end of the western section of Hope Place be modally filtered? Traffic can enter / exit car park at rear of pub via east end of Hope Place. Or would one way southbound for exit only onto Ravensheugh Rd be better? Provide cycle parking outside the pub. Provide cycle parking outside the village shop Paint hatching should be a footway build out. Provide link for cycles to/from Mayville Bank from segregated cycle path on nort… Will parked cars / vans at east end of Hope Place block visibility of cyclists and pedestrians headed westwards towards junction? Can this new toucan crossing be slightly repositioned to allow for for cyclists to/from Ravensheugh Crescent access the segregated route east and west? Visibility of car drivers exiting Levenhall Links Rd is blocked by wall at no. 40. Could junction be adjusted eastwards to increase visibility? Or close this with Modal filter and make all vehicles use the entry / exit further east to the Ash Lagoons as visibility is better when exiting the car parks at the lagoons rather than Levenhall Links Road? Pavement Parking issues are to be resolved at Westpans where some homes don't have a driveway and often cars are seen parked here. Segregation to be provided rather than shared space between the segments. Also connection for cycles to / from roads opposite need to be provided via dropped kerbs. Not adequate floating bus stop. Given frequency buses along this route? Also Cycle access to / from Drummohr House Road and for pedestrians to/from …

Why the book was only 50p - a very battered, ripped spine, with a suggestion of the general, um, mossiness of the interior. Just needs a good dust, honestly.
