Don't suppose anyone knows is the #Holbury Great-tailed Grackle has been seen after Monday this week? @rarebirder.bsky.social #birds #UKBirding #rarebirduk
A sketchbook page showing a set of sketches of a Horned Lark. A small passerines bird with a yellow throat, black mask and moustache, a broad pale supercillium surmounted by a thin black line and two black small raised pointy feathers, giving it the name Horned. The ear coverts are washed grey and the rest of the upper parts are brown faintly streaked. The bill is sharp tipped and neat. The underside is pale with buff washed flanks, some small streaking on the shoulder and a black crescent across the breast.
The ABA picking Horned Lark as bird of the year made me go back and look out the notes on the 2001 Tresco Horned Lark that subsequently became the first for Britain (and gave me and T'other Half a very late wedding present in the shape of a first for Britain). #Birds #UKbirding #RareBirdUK
South Devon's #DesertWheatear hunkered down in gorse on a clifftop at #BolberryDown yesterday. By 1.00pm it had dried out a little in the strong wind. #DevonBirds #UKBirding @rarebirder.bsky.social @birdguides.bsky.social #RareBirdUK
‘Pallas's Warbler in Sycamore’
gouache, 20 x 14 cms
A number of these petite and lively warblers have arrived in the U.K. in the past week after flying all the way from east Asia. A few are usually found in late autumn on the coast or offshore islands. #pallas'swarbler #rarebirduk
Some Bird Magic — the Rutland Baird’s Sandpiper pulls a classic disappearing act… straight up the barrel of a camera lens! Maybe a bit of overkill on the size of lens required! 🎩🔫📸 #ukbirding #BirdingUK #RareBirdUK
Turkestan Shrike with some admirers
Managed to get over and see the Turkestan Shrike y’day at Dunwich. As always with Shrikes an absolute cracker… #rarebirduk
Earlier in the month, Dad and I visited the Suffolk coast. Of course the Zitting Cisticola was the highlight but the showy young Black Stork gave outrageous views. More on justwildimages.blogspot.com

The morning sun catching the Dark-breasted Barn Owl, whilst the trees behind remain in shadow. One of the best ones I've taken so far, of this great bird. More on justwildimages.blogspot.com #DarkBreastedBarnOwl #BarnOwl #RareBirdUK #BirdPhotography #WildlifePhotographyUK #BirdingUK
