(Book review, 1/2) The Old Switcheroo Have you seen the 1997 movie 'My Best Friend's Wedding'? This is not that. The twist here is that the 'best friend' catches the groom-to-be, leaving the fiancée, Daphne Vincent, and newly dumped Miles Nowak to pick up the pieces. For as likable as Petra and Peter apparently are, I found them abhorrent and was happy to see Daphne and Miles find their path forward. They are an odd couple that click in all the right ways. Sweet, fun, funny, thought-provoking (for each other), and thoughtful with a nice dash of heat. -- Book quote 'What exquisite timing for my identity crisis: he wants to do the smart thing, and I want to have reckless sex with him.' -- Daphne Vincent I enjoyed the book. For the first two-thirds, I couldn't put it down. The last third got mired in some misunderstanding and bad communication. Eventually, it works itself out (not a spoiler as this is a romance with an HEA), but the speed that I consumed the last third slowed down.
(Book review, 2/2) I did like that Daphne FINALLY found her voice and started putting herself first. For two people in their 30s, they both had a LOT of room for growth and growing up. Yes, adulting can really suck, but it's a necessary evil that they both start to navigate. One of my favorite things are the little adventures in and around their little piece of the world. Not only does Daphne realize why Miles stayed, but she starts to.... Oh, I won't say, but they're still wonderful bits. I read along with the audio book. The narrator is Julia Whelan. She provides a solid performance, and I enjoyed listening to her. Story: 4 stars Narration: 4 stars Listening Speed: 1.8x H = 36; h = 33

(Book review, 2/2) The daily progress reports to Stevie are hilarious! They are possibly my favorite part. OK, the ending and epilogue take the cake, but still.... As I don't think either character should be defined by their prior relationships, I will say that they were both shafted. Getting past the pain of the betrayals is long overdue, and I'm so happy that they've figured it out together! I borrowed the audio book. (Book review) Expectations and Goals Initially, Alex Thorne acted much like an elementary kid teasing the person he secretly likes, annoying Yvette Wright with frequency. I like how he realized his true feelings before he had to leave town for a stretch. Even more, I love what he does to win her over when he returns. His honesty, letting her know from Day 1 what his end goal is and making sure she knows that the pace of their relationship is set by her, made him that much more endearing. The one-of-a-kind advent calendar was awesome. I love the thought put into it and the list he crafted to keep him on track. From crazy / ugly Christmas sweaters to crotchety friends to family drama to found families and solid friendships, this is a wonderful book. The love and support of those around them is sweet and amazing. I mean, it's just another reason to fall in love with Heart Falls and its citizens. I received an author's copy of the audio book. (Book review 1/2) Unpacking Baggage Evan (Zee, EZ) Zanders and Stevie (Vee) Shay are more alike than either realizes. Watching them as recognition dawns on them as they get to know each other is part of what makes this such an enjoyable read. Of course, the other part is the heat that radiates between them before the plane ever takes off. Purple friends and imagination have nothing on the real thing. 🥵🌶🔥 Indy: “Please fuck him,” Indy begs when it’s only the two of us in the galley again. Stevie: “What?” Indy: “Please, please, please fuck him and then tell me every little detail.” Stevie: “I am not sleeping with him.” Indy: “Why the hell not?” Stevie: My brows furrow. “Because we work for him. Because he’s in love with himself, and because I’m pretty sure he has sex with just about anything that has a vagina, and I doubt he knows their name when he screws them.”
(Book review 2/2) Stevie may not be wrong about Zee and his... interactions, yeah, let's call them that, with the ladies, but boy oh boy, is it fun to watch them slip past those flaws and move into something more. I like that we see his insecurities as equally as we see hers, and I love how they rally for each other. I like that they are neither V's nor saints. They have healthy-ish appetites for bedroom gymnastics and make no apologies about it. Even more, I love Stevie's purple travel companion. 😂🥵🍆🔥 I do want to take a moment to mention that his agent, Rich, is slimy and scummy and should get a beat down for his 💩. That said, you know what they say Karma is, and she's coming for him. I borrowed the audio book. The narrators are Winston James and Mari. Both are new to me. They do a great job of conveying the sass and machismo from these two, as well as their respective vulnerabilities. (Book review) Who's Bored? Not Me! Sean O'Malley Jr and Zara Luciana Marino undoubtedly have chemistry. I mean, she knows his size before she ever gets to witness it due to its appearance against her over the years. There's just one word for that - HOT! (Fine, there are dozens to choose from, but this one is more than enough.) 'He knows I can't ever tell him to stop when he touches me. He's a magnet, and there's no way to pull away from him. The moment we crossed the line, it became undoable. He knows it, and I know it.' -- Zara Luciana Marino I couldn't put this down. Seriously, I wanted to scream every time I was interrupted. 🤪 It's naughty, twisted, funny, deadly, and full of secrets and lies. In short, it's everything I expect from a Maggie Cole Mafia book. This is dark, but for me, most of the warnings are general content and not triggering. That's me, of course, and may differ for you. The graphic details of Sean Sr's death, while touched upon, aren't here (thankfully; that's honestly the hardest scene for me to read that Maggie's written). Still, there is torture and death to contend with, plus a scene that skirts the line of dub con. There is a TON of name dropping throughout the book. If you haven't read the Mafia Wars series, you don't have to, but you may need to study the family tree at the beginning of the book a bit. For those that are familiar, be prepared to *squee* with joy like I did! H = 36; h = 30

When they first crossed from friends to lovers, I knew what was coming, but it still threw me for a loop. We fast forward and get to see them rekindle those feelings, good and bad. Even when they're being incredibly stubborn, I loved them and their story. I've enjoyed every story in this series, but this might be my favorite. 'I’m just Ava, same flavor every day of the week. No way will I possibly be enough for him." -- Dr. Ava Greely There's a stalker and serial killer on the loose that does lead to more questions than answers. With someone close to Hutch being in the crosshairs, it amps up the tension. It's well-written and very realistic. Not all endings are happy ones, but Ava and Hutch get theirs. Prior reading isn't necessary, but I personally recommend it if you can. There is a small crossover from Penny Creek (Falling Hard series) that I can't wait to see play out. H & h = late 20s / early 30s

Kolt Kolburne and his estranged wife, Paige "Buttercup" Hendrix Kolburne, are the couple I've been waiting for since learning they split. What brings them back together is something that Damar Hamlin may appreciate. Even if he doesn't, I do. 😍 'Paige makes her way toward me. Even in this shitty situation, when I look at her, it brings me peace, just like the first time I saw her and every time since then.' -- Kolt Kolburne I like that we don't have to wait long before knowing why he did what he did to push her away, something I suspected based on how he was in the other books leading up to this. It's sad, for certain, but I just wanted to shake some sense into him. As much as I hate the pain and suffering, I love that they take one step forward, two back before finally finding some semblance of a path moving forward-ish. It's not an easily traveled road, which makes it all the sweeter when they FINALLY lay those cards down. Another thing I love are the relationships with his teammates, their families, and her family. It's unsurprising that Amy steals a few scenes. 😁 His living family isn't bad, but they have a lot of healing to do that we haven't seen (yet?). No prior reading is required, but you may enjoy this more if you do. And the setup for the next few books? Oh, yeah! 💜 H = 28; h = 27

They are considered a "perfect pair," and she doesn't feel that she can match up against their past conquests. These are feelings many can relate to, including me. 'She was nothing like the woman I had expected, let alone what I normally was attracted to. Physically, she wasn’t thin or dressed to impress, and I could see the keen intelligence in her eyes. She wouldn’t be easy to talk around to my way of things. Not at all.' -- Brandon I didn't always like the guys, and Laura wasn't perfect, but I did like the book. Her sister is a bit much and a bit typical for her age. I really like the setup for the next book. It looks really good. I read along with the audio book. This second chance romance may irk me a little here and there, but I didn't want to put it down.
