This female Wheatear has brownish-orange cheeks, a grey-brown eye stripe and crown, and a pale-orange-flushed breast. She is perching on a rock with a metered-out, blue-sky background. Taken on a bonny day on Papa Westray in September this year.

Photo taken at Forest Farm Nature Reserve - Cardiff - South Wales The Little Egret is a graceful, all-white, medium-sized wading bird, like a smaller, more delicate heron, known for its elegant long neck, black bill, black legs, and distinct bright yellow feet, which are very noticeable when it's feeding in shallow water. You might hear its harsh, croaking calls, but otherwise, it's often quiet as it hunts for tiny fish and insects, often seen in wetlands, coasts, and rivers.

Photo taken at Cwm Cadlan - Brecon ( Bannau Brycheiniog) - South Wales A wheatear is a small, active bird, a bit bigger than a robin, known for its distinctive black-and-white tail that flashes in flight, looking like a black 'T' on a white background; males have a smart blue-grey back, black wings, black cheek mask, and an orange-tinged white belly, while females are browner, but both have that striking white rump. They hop and run on the ground in open, rocky, or grassy places, often pausing to perch upright on low stones.

Ein Steinschmätzer sitzt aufrecht auf einem grauen Felsblock in einer steinigen Landschaft. Der kleine Singvogel zeigt sein charakteristisches beige-braunes Gefieder mit hellerer Brust und dunklen Flügelmarkierungen. Um ihn herum sind weitere Felsen und Steine zu sehen, die teilweise mit orangefarbenen Flechten bewachsen sind. Das Sonnenlicht beleuchtet die natürliche Gesteinsformation und hebt die warmen Farbtöne der Felsen hervor, während der Vogel eine typische, wachsame Haltung einnimmt.

Steinschmätzer (Oenanthe oenanthe) gehören zu den Vögeln mit der größten Flugleistung. Auf ihrer Reise zwischen Brutgebiet und Überwinterungsort legen sie bis zu 30.000 km im Jahr und 300 km täglich zurück.
