A photo of the dorsal side large rusty brown beetle on dried grass. The beetle has an overall tablet-like elongated ovoid shape. Its elytra, the hardened forewing is glossy and smooth. The pronotum, the area behind the head has a wavy dimpled texture along the sides. The head is triangular and the beetle has large black eyes and powerful mandibles.
A photo of another example of the beetle from the upper side as it rests on light blue painted wood. This example is a darker brown, but overall the same elongated tablet-like shape, glossy elytra, textured pronotum (though some spines can be seen on this one) and triangular head with powerful mandibles.
A close up photo of the beetle's head from the side. The segmented antennae emerge just in front of the beetle's large glossy, black eyes. The powerful shear-like mandibles are visible as are the clawed ends of it's feet.
The Longhorn #Beetles I posted yesterday were medium to small sized. They can however get MUCH larger. This is the Hardwood Stump Borer, Mallodon dasystomus which can get up to 2 inches (5cm) in length.

A photo of a female Pine Sawyer beetle from above. The beetle is mottled brown, gray, and black which is effective camouflage against the pine trees it feeds upon. The beetle has an over all lengthened ovate (or tablet-like) shape and has 2 spines on the pronotum, the area just behind the head) This example's antennae are not overly long, roughly the same length as the body which indicates it is a female as the males antennae are much longer.

Unfortunately the year also brought the bitter sting of loss. My beloved Candace was taken from us by cancer in February almost exactly 9 years after her rescue. This is one of the last photos of her I took.
