Had a few of these on the outskirts of the village in the past couple of years but this lone Twite was a fantasic surprise garden tick for Keyingham, East Yorks this morning, calling a few times before it was soon lost behind the rooftops heading west. #yorksbirds @patchbirding.bsky.social
The two Cranes still on Withfleet Outstrays this evening, although one remained stubbornly behind reeds. They seem to like it here. #yorksbirds

"Has the Albatross been seen?" "Sadly not for a few days now..."
Culling old memory cards and found this from 2021 at #Bempton - not my best but surely my most caption-friendly photo of the BBA....

Yesterday was #WorldSeabirdDay, which I spent guiding my final Puffin & Seabird Specials at the mighty #Flamborough Head.
We had the privilege of watching this Puffling exploring the outside world for the first time. Good luck, little one... (1/2)

Cetti's Warbler, Filey Dams
Relaxing few hours back at #Filey today with a mix of fresh-in migrants - Grasshopper Warbler (Long Lane), Common Redstart (Long Hedge), Reed Warbler (Dams) all firsts-of-the-year, plus twos of Cetti's and Sedge Warblers, also at the Dams.

Had double helpings of Common Scoter via #nocmig recently from both the landlocked garden in Milton Keynes on 25th March and much nearer the coast from Keyingham, East Yorks this week, with this set of calls caught at 3.23am on Tuesday. #yorksbirds

Another scan of Hull's gulls yesterday produced this intriguing Common Gull. Seemingly a normal Canus on the deck but displaying Heinei-like features to the wings in flight, including small P9 mirrors and black band on P5. Perhaps a more Eastern/intergrade type? #yorksbirds

On the northern patch, at least 11 vocal Twite were among Linnets on the outskirts of Keyingham, East Yorks this morning and later on yesterday's 1W Caspian Gull made a passing appearance in Hull, heading west/southwest along the Humber. #yorksbirds #hullbirds @birdguides.bsky.social
After a morning of lively Lapwings and an incredibly obliging Redwing at YWT North Cave Wetlands, a passing scan of gulls near the Hull Marina produced a superb 1W/2CY Caspian Gull, standing out well from the Herring Gulls around it. #yorksbirds #hullbirds @northcavebirds.bsky.social
Back surveying on the Humber at KG Dock in the east of #Hull today, where (despite disturbance) the riverside wasteland can be a good spot for Snipe - two each of Jack and Common today. The Jacks both sat tight, such a joy to find (and to leave undisturbed).

Some video with the Siberian Chiffchaff's calls from Burstwick. Proving more vocal than visible today but within the same area as the previous sightings. (2/2) #yorksbirds
A sparrow hawk has killed a blackbird and is standing on top of his prey. There is snow on the ground
Sparrowhawk gets a meal. 9 blackbirds have been feeding in our garden while snow has been on the ground. There are now only 8. This male sparrowhawk is not a great deal bigger than the blackbird, which he eventually flew off with. Holmfirth, West Yorks #ukbirding #yorksbirds
A siskin on a small branch against a pale blue wintery sky
One of the five Siskins that came into our Holmfirth, West Yorkshire garden yesterday. It's very snowy here and we are getting more birds than usual on our feeders. These lovely little birds are garden visitors we only get a couple of times a year. #ukbirding #yorksbirds
There are three chimney pots on top of a snow covered chimney stack. Two of the chimney pots have a Jackdaw on top. The background is not in focus, but is white and grey snow covered cottages across the valley

Cryptic, charismatic & characterful, Jack Snipe are hard to beat - seven in my survey area today (all in a small, muddy industrial area by #Hull docks) were a real treat. All sat tight and gave me the thousand yard stare, unlike their cowardly common cousins....

Spot the #Hull #Gannet (easier if you're on board the docked ferry!) - one of 20 we had - as well as seven Little Auks, from incidental obs 1130-1445 at Saltend while conducting other surveys. We're well upstream here, so it was pleasing to get some stormy seabird action...
