A plump brown bird with bold brown streaking on its chest and a down curved bill is sitting on a branch. It’s a Brown Thrasher – a well-named bird because I often come across it thrashing around in the undergrowth. Also, it's undeniably brown. Brown Thrashers are found in thickets, hedgerows, forest edges, and overgrown clearings in deciduous forests. These birds often look like they are annoyed about something. I think it's the expression in those deep yellow eyes.

Brown Thrashers are such cool birds. They were “tsk”ing all around us as we took measurements of this one.
All banding, marking, and sampling is being conducted under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey’s BBL.
