Figure_1. An overview of the study area, sampling sites, and sampling technique within Eastern Canada. a) Geographic distribution of the 44 study sites organized into 7 blocks across Northern Quebec, from Mont-Laurier to LaSarre-Duparquet, covering approximately 750 km. The shaded polygons represent the geographic limits for the blocks (displayed for understanding and don't delineate the regional boundaries), with a legend illustrating the treatment types through specific icons, block delineations, and the primary transport highway for context. The map scale indicates distances corresponding to real-world measurements, maintaining an accuracy of approximately ±10 %. b) Depiction of a typical Lindgren funnel trap setup used in the study, showing 12 units equipped with a wet collection cup and lures, deployed between two conifers about 5 m apart at one of the study sites.

A photo of a mottled brown beetle with yellow spots and LONG antennae resting on light blue painted wood. The beetle is thick with mostly mottled brown and light brown markings on its body with a few scattered spots of yellow. It has black eyes and mandibles. It's antennae are very long and arch delicate to the right of the frame.

Here's a Tunga Rere, the huhu beetle, NZ's largest native beetle species.

I'd forgotten I'd taken this photo and just found it in my backlog and popped it on iNaturalist (and Flickr).

The beetle has very long segmented antennae which sweep backwards along the sides of its body. It is capsule shaped with black markings on either side of the middle of its body which is overall gray in color. The mantidfly beneath it is tan and is curved slightly towards the beetle. Though the mantidfly is a fierce predator, the beetle was too large to be a potential meal (though it could dream...). To the right of the mantidfly is a tiny gray veneer moth.

Happy 21.

A photo of a female Pine Sawyer beetle from above. The beetle is mottled brown, gray, and black which is effective camouflage against the pine trees it feeds upon. The beetle has an over all lengthened ovate (or tablet-like) shape and has 2 spines on the pronotum, the area just behind the head) This example's antennae are not overly long, roughly the same length as the body which indicates it is a female as the males antennae are much longer.
