Complementary Medicine Meets Rheumatology: New Ways to Reduce Inflammation - The Rheumatologist At this ACR Convergence 2025 session, the speaker highlighted ways complementary and alternative medicine can be used alongside traditional medical treatments.

"Dr. Manek emphasized the importance of #StressManagement for controlling #inflammation. “The #medications for inflammatory #arthritis & #ConnectiveTissue diseases do not address the stress pathways that are so fundamental..”": buff.ly/HgqQo3C

U01.01.037 Elastin Analyze the clinical presentation by linking progressive dyspnea with liver disease history and PAS-positive diastase-resistant globules in hepatocytes. These findings indicate a genetic enzyme deficiency that affects both lungs and liver. Identify which enzyme’s unchecked activity leads to lung damage in this condition. Choose the correct answer based on pathophysiology.

Understand the role of elastin in maintaining tissue flexibility and how its defects lead to connective tissue disorders.

U01.01.035 Ehlers-Danlos syndrome Carefully analyze the genetic and clinical clues given in the question. Look for key findings such as joint hypermobility, skin hyperextensibility, and easy bruising. Next, connect these clinical features to the underlying collagen gene mutation (COL5A1). Use your understanding of the Ehlers-Danlos syndrome subtypes to identify which one matches this genetic defect.

Text reading: If you can intervene before a condition degenerates, you can in theory prevent permanent disability or at the very less mitigate the fallout by breaking the cycle. Without putting in place a holistic approach that addresses both these aspects, it’s not uncommon for a person’s condition to spiral out of control. In my opinion, Australia’s medical system often fails to address either element in a satisfying manner.

Black text on an orange background: While genetic conditions can be extremely complicated to treat, a lot of the failure I see with the medical community is not due to inexperience but an unwillingness to look after complicated patients. Problems exist partially due to an overburdened and hollowed out system that leaves a lot of people like myself in a terrible position.

The hEDS Immune Connection: What New Research Means for Your Health A breakthrough study shows that immune signaling, not just genetics, plays a major role in hEDS. Here’s how mast cells, inflammation, and your environment interact—and why it matters more than ever.

"Here’s the metaphor we’re going to use to explain it (pardon the crudeness):
#MastCells act like meat tenderizer on #ConnectiveTissue. They don’t destroy your tissue all at once. They quietly soften, weaken, and loosen it.": buff.ly/lwN4Q0I

Don’t buy industrial nuggets.

Make them yourself; it doesn’t take any longer than defrosting them, and it’s very simple.

They are made with chickens fed type 2 corn. The meat is minced and mixed with flour made from the same corn and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which is also derived from corn. The breading is made with corn starch. This corn is subsidized and paid for by taxpayers, making it almost free for manufacturers. There is very little meat. They are made with connective tissue (which connects the muscles to the bone) dissolved in acid (often citric acid). The meat is sometimes mixed with ground bones. It is animal protein, but it is not meat. The protein structure is destroyed by the acid treatment and becomes indigestible, meaning that the body cannot use the protein as it is; the body converts it into triglycerides (which are transported by “bad” cholesterol and promote strokes). Only fructose is digested.

Choose boneless chicken or pork strips: chicken breast, chicken thigh steak, pork shoulder, etc. Choose meat with a red label, organic label, or local label.

To keep the meat tender, you can marinate it (optional) and bread it to prevent it from drying out.

1. Cut about 200g of pork or chicken into pieces of the desired size for nuggets.

2. Optional to tenderize the meat: Add a teaspoon of soy sauce and a teaspoon of spices (your choice: ras el hanout, curry, ginger, etc.). Add a teaspoon of vinegar. Mix well.

3. Add three tablespoons of flour (any type: wheat, spelt, rye, etc.). Spread evenly over the meat.

4. Beat a whole egg. Add it and mix well.

5. Add 4 tablespoons of breadcrumbs. Spread evenly over the meat.

6. Heat some seed oil (any type: sunflower, canola, etc.). Place the pieces of meat one by one in the hot oil.

7. Remove the pieces of meat when they are golden brown.

For a quicker recipe:

1. Cut approximately 200g of pork or chicken into pieces of the desired size for nuggets.
