Exactly! I love the #DougTallamy stat he uses.often: Native oaks are host to over 600+ species of native catapillar. A single Chikadee may lay 3 eggs, it takes ~3,000 catapillar to raise it just to fledge the nest. ~9,000 for a single brood to grow old enough to fledge.

Idk who needs to hear this but we are in an environmental and ecological free-fall collapse.

But human activity is not inherently harmful, despite what capitalists want you to think.

Be a force of health and healing, plant locally-native plants now!

The Four Ecologically Crucial Things You Should Do in Your Garden (Gift Article) The ecologist Douglas Tallamy says your landscape can help manage the watershed, support pollinators, bolster a viable food web, and sequester carbon.

#DougTallamy has changed the narrative on why native plants are so important. He says that even small stands of natives in our yards can make a real difference for pollinators and for birds. It's good to ask, "What would Doug do?" Read this NY Times gift article: www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/r...

Instead of calling it a butterfly garden, why don't we call it a Lepidoptera garden? For every species of butterfly, there are 19 species of moths.

Did you know that butterflys are poor pollinators? Moths drive the food web, and do plenty of nighttime pollination. #Nativeplants #DougTallamy #YEG

We have to stop thinking ‘nature’ is something you go to, visiting it outside of your orbit. We are nature. We are part of it. And we can use our outdoor spaces to invite it in & celebrate it. Window boxes or 10 acres, you can plant things to support life. #plantnatives #gardening #dougtallamy

Quote from Doug Tallamy superimposed over a photo of a native plant meadow at sunset: ”If half of American lawns were replaced with native plants, the collective impact would be staggering. We could create the equivalent of a 20-million-acre national park - nine times larger than Yellowstone National Park or 100 times larger than Shenandoah National Park.”
