A Blue Jay has draped itself sideways from right to left across a rotting log to bask in the sun, with tail spread open and head tilted back and upward. The wing and tail feathers are blue with black partial horizontal striped markings and the ends of each feather are bright white. The body has fluffed up gray to gray-blue feathers and the bird has a bold black "necklace" which gets wider behind the head. A striking bird in an unusual pose in the bright sun. The background is mainly black.
A Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) basking in the sun is #BirdoftheDay for the theme of #feathers. Because they are so common here, I sometimes forget how pretty they are.
