Planthopper phylogeny, with information on which symbionts result in which clades
We surveyed ~150 species across the taxonomic diversity of #planthoppers (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha). We found the ancient nutritional symbionts Sulcia and Vidania in most species—often alongside additional microbes (unless replaced by #Ophiocordyceps).

My (HC Arts) work in progress painting of an annual cicada in her little art studio. The art studio has wood grain walls, wood panel floors, leaf rugs, some shelves, a small tea table, a wash station with a stone basin, some planthopper friends, and her art supplies. For her paint colors to use on her canvas, she has a raspberry, blueberry, and turmeric for pigments. The annual cicada is using the shaving brush planthoppers to paint on the canvas.
A close up of the wooden plaque I've been painting on to show the little details so far in the newest shaving brush planthopper. This one has blue pigment that it has to go to the wash station to rinse out before it can be used as a paint brush again.
