#StatutorySickPay (SSP) is changing!

From 6th April 2026, the #EmploymentRightsAct 2025 means that:

✅ SSP will be paid from the 1st full day of sickness absence (rather than the 4th day)
✅ The lower earnings limit will be removed, making SSP available to all employees regardless of weekly earnings

Powerful words from Amy @mssocietyuk.bsky.social at this morning’s Parliamentary drop-in ⬇️

Amy’s heartbreaking story shows why it is so urgent that the UK Government raises the rate of #StatutorySickPay. No one should be forced into work because sick pay is so low.

We need #SafeSickPay now

Many thanks @oxfamgbpolicy.bsky.social for publishing a blog today on the need for an increase in the rate of #StatutorySickPay. Current proposals won't go far enough to protect millions of people reliant on sick pay.

The #EmploymentRightsBill is our opportunity to change this. Read more ⬇️

I have personal experience of having to survive on SSP and it is NOT easy. Campaign organiser, The Centre for Progressive Change, says "At £116.75 per week, the UK offers one of the least generous sick pay rates among industrialised nations

"Both my partner and I had to claim sick pay...we couldn't pay our bills or afford food on that pay, which forced me to return to work so we could survive and not lose our home."

Ashley's heartbreaking story shows how vital it is that we raise #StatutorySickPay. Join the #SafeSickPay campaign now ⬇️

Stand up for sick pay No one can afford to live on £3 an hour. That's how much people recovering from long term illnesses and injury receive on Statutory Sick Pay. Agree we need to raise the rate? Pledge your support!

Workers are left ill or injured on just £3 an hour because of the UK's incredibly low rate of #StatutorySickPay. 1 in 3 don't get any form of sick pay protection from their employer beyond the legal minimum

Third day off-sick and not happy about it! Nobody can afford to live on the pittance they call #StatutorySickPay
Got a flu type bug, no fault of my own and was sent home on Saturday. #Starmer and his government MUST review sick pay as a matter of urgency in my opinion.
