I rarely leave South Devon these days, so despite seeing 35+ Red Kites 🥹 and finding an unlikely Marsh Harrier, the star species of my short trip to the East of England was #CornBunting. Finding a group of 5 together at the end of July was special 👍. #BedsBirds #UKBirding #birds

Pair of #YellowWagtails #Cornbunting #CommonWhitethroat #Linnet on morning walk this morning. The pair of wagtails was a fluke as i only saw the 1, but after taking shot, saw the both. Feeding young, as were back and forth from 1 field to the next constantly.

Their song is unique & varies in ‘dialect’ across short distances .. so might mean different sounds of jangling keys in #Purbeck 😜

The «Fat Bird in the Barley», very common in the open fields of southern Europe, but almost extinct in the British Isles, perches on bushes and branches to sing in spring. In this case, its back is turned, but it turns to look at the photographer, who can't believe how confident this bird is. It's now extinct in Ireland whilst here in UK dropped -83% from 1967 to 2022!
This is the farmland it's surviving in 🙄

Seeing two of our #Red-listed members of the #buntings today was a treat in the rolling mono-croplands & over-grazed horse paddocks #eastofBrighton.
