These female elephant seals just can’t get settled, in light rain this afternoon. One demonstrates her ability to bend her back nearly in a circle. Another shows her skin partly peeled off, catastrophic molt. Two face off in the background.

But today I watched one chase down a fish for several minutes with intention, hurling himself dramatically ashore as he made the catch! Looks like a Striped Bass to me, but I'm no expert. This senior elephant seal bull has a nose (technically, proboscis) so long, it does look like a trunk. It doubles over on the beach. His prime breeding may be over, though. Recreated far from the females and their pups, out of the active battles for dominance and breeding rights.
