It’s finally got a bit warmer so there were a few more moths in last nights trap & a couple of NFG:

Emperor Moth Saturnia pavonia North Antrim 8 April 2026. Having tried every day this week, finally the first Emperor showed up today. To breezy for pics, these are library images. #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @europebutterfly.bsky.social
Micropterix calthella. This very common micro is a spring favourite.

Micropterix calthella from Forest farm, Cardiff yesterday.

Oak-tree Pug (Eupithecia dodoneata) was another "new for year" species in my #Norwich moth trap this morning. The run of Frosted Green (Polyploca ridens) continues, a lovely fresh but dark individual showing variation with its counterpart. #teammoth #norfolkmoths #mothsmatter #bugsky
Angle Shades (Phlogophora meticulosa) NFY in my #Norwich moth trap this morning. A common but mesmerisingly beautiful species. Always a welcome visitor. #norfolkmoths #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth #bugsky #pollinators
Acleris literana (Lichen Tortrix)
Acleris literana (Lichen Tortrix)
Acleris literana (Lichen Tortrix)
Brindled Pug (upithecia abbreviata). Many people are dismissive or down on pugs. They can be tricky to id, especially when worn. But I rather like them. Perhaps that's the birder in me, always trying to pick out the "wheat from the chaff". This individual is very fresh with intricate patterning & colours, a very easy id and a most welcome visitor. I think I enjoyed it more than the more scare A.literana.
Chuffed to find Acleris literana (Lichen Tortrix) on the moth trap this am, the 2nd garden record. A worn, shabby individual, but you can see why it has it's colloquial name. Brindled Pug (upithecia abbreviata) also "new for year" - my thoughts in ALT. #teammoth #mothsmatter #bugsky #norfolkmoths
19/7 moths recorded last night 6/4/26 at home in St Helens, the best being another Grey Shoulder-knot, but this Early Tooth-striped was a new for the year. #Mothsmatter #StHelensBirding
Tiny, dainty micro moths - Micropterix calthella #MothsMatter #TeamMoth

Brindled Beauty (Lycia hirtaria) was "new for year" in this morning's #Norwich moth trap. Plus a brace of Frosted Green (Polyploca ridens) - always a welcome sight. #moths #teammoth #mothsmatter #norfolkmoths #bugsky
Moths not doing so well but fingers crossed for the next three days. Dippers showing much better. #MothsMatter #Teammoth
Pale Prominent moth on blue egg tray
Muslin Moth on blue egg tray
Plugged in the double actinic in the Littlestone garden (SE Kent) although it was clear and cool
Pale Prominent and Muslin Moth were new for the year from only 8 moths

The pugs have arrived, o joy 😂. They are easing me in gently I hope. Double-striped and Brindled #teammoth #mothsmatter #pugs @savebutterflies.bsky.social #whatsflyingtonight @gardenmothscheme.bsky.social #butterfliesandmoths #ukwildlife #gardenwildlife
Diurnea fagella (Early Reveller) North Antrim, March 2026. Good numbers of this micromoth in the local wood this year. #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth #gcampbellphoto @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @europebutterfly.bsky.social
First Emperor Moth (Saturnia pavonia) of the year 😃

The Streamer (Anticlea derivata)
To say last night's catch was a disappointment would be an understatement, but it was nice to see this Streamer at rest on the fence next to the trap. New for the year.

A little bit of colour in this morning's moth trap. Only my second Early Thorn (and first of the spring generation) and one of two Frosted Green, more regular in the garden but great to see after none in '25. #norfolkmoths #mothsmatter #teammoth #moths #bugsky
Clouded Drab Orthosia incerta)N Antrim - March 2026. One of the more frequently seen species at this time, it doesn't seem to appear in numbers of a decade ago. #gcampbellphoto #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @europebutterfly.bsky.social
Water Carpet (Lampropteryx suffumata) - North Antrim - March 2026. The first of these attractive carpet moths appeared in the woods this week. #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth #nature #gcampbellphoto @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @europebutterfly.bsky.social
Waved Umber (Menophra abruptaria)
Lydd on Sea VC15, another chilly windy night by the sea, resulted in 8 of 5sp.
The highlight and New for Year, was this Waved Umber, hiding behind the trap at the base of the fence.

Colostygia multistrigaria (Mottled Grey) overnight, Putney Heath, SW London (VC17). Not a common or abundant moth in Surrey or SW London. #MothsMatter
An Early Grey Moth, Xylocampa areola, spotted on a fencepost at Kennack Sands last week #MothsMatter #TeamMoth
Pine Beauty (Panolis flammea) - North Antrim - March 2026. A nice way to see out March with one of my favourite early season moths. #moths #mothsofinstagram #mothsmatter #teammoth #gcampbellphoto @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social

A Pale Prominent moth, well disguised as a piece of broken wood, sitting on a wooden surface
A wonderfully vibrant Red-green Carpet moth, intricately patterned in shades of green with brownish patches and wiggly black lines.
A Brindled Beauty moth with buff-coloured wings striped with black, and feathered antennae.
Despite a coolish night, a few more species in the moth trap this morning including a Brindled Beauty, two very fresh Red-green Carpets and, most surprisingly, our earliest ever Pale Prominent, all new for the year.

Four Early Grey moths
Two of four Brindled Beauty. The other two flew away.
Just 10/4 here in North Derbyshire last night (31st March) under a very bright moon when I went to noddy land. Nothing new but 4 Brindled Beauty (2 of which didn’t like the paparazzi), 4 Early Grey, and one each Small & Common Quaker. #TeamMoth #MothsMatter @savebutterflies.bsky.social #DERBYSHIRE
3 of 3 #teammoth to actinic last night An uptick given that a certain ol’ Irishman haunted the trap the night before ;) #mothsmatter #gardenwildlife
Spring moth trapping. King's College meadow is full of Cowslips and Snakeeshead fritillaries. Only one moth today, the 'local' Agonopterix purpurea but there were 7 Marbled beauty caterpillars on the white wall behind the trap (they feed on lichen). #mothsmatter
